Sebastian Vettel is set to receive a five-place grid penalty at the Russian Grand Prix after Ferrari was forced to fit a new gearbox to his SF16-H.
Formula 1 Technical Delegate Jo Bauer confirmed on Friday evening that Ferrari has changed the gearbox in Vettel's car.
Each gearbox must last for six consecutive events and as Vettel finished the most recent race in China, the change is outside of the sporting regulations.
Vettel, therefore, will drop five places from wherever he qualifies on Saturday.
Vettel suffered a disrupted day of practice on Friday after an electrical problem halted his SF16-H half an hour into the second session.
