Conflicting fortunes for race organisers

Formula 1 will return to Austria and head to Russia in 2014. But for New Jersey, the situation is somewhat cloudier. A new season is slowly creeping over the horizon, with Formula 1’s workforce frantically preparing the new breed of machines that will hit the track in Jerez in three weeks’ time. There will be conflicting fortunes: someone has to finish top of the class and another will end up with the wooden spoon. But for now, there is some anxious work ongoing. It’s a […]

Ferrari on track for late January launch

Ferrari is edging close to having its 2014 car ready for the start of winter testing. Reports in the Marca sports newspaper (Spain) and the authoritative Autosprint (Italy) say the Maranello-built single seater is set to be launched on either the 23rd, 24th or 25th of January, a few days ahead of the opening test at Jerez. Marca correspondent Marco Canseco said the car, whose official name will be decided by fans via an internet poll, will "almost certainly" undergo its mandatory FIA crash tests […]

Korea, New Jersey adamant on F1 future

Organisers of the Korean Grand Prix insist that they are not giving up on the possibility of Formula 1 returning to the country in the future. The race, held at the Yeongam circuit near Mokpo, has been dropped after four years on the calendar. The event has struggled financially since its inaugural race in 2010 but Park Joon-Yung, Governor of The Southern Province of South Jeolla, is adamant that the sport is crucial to the area. "Formula 1 is the future of our province," he […]

The start of Q3 was delayed due to the rain intensifying but the final qualifying segment of the season eventually got underway after a 40 minute delay. Vettel seized the advantage on wet tyres but the track dried sufficiently for Intermediates to […]

Webber tops final practice session in Brazil

Mark Webber topped the final practice session of his Formula 1 career in Brazil as he went fastest in wet conditions in Brazil. Wet weather continued to plague Interlagos, meaning that teams and drivers preserved wet tyres throughout the opening half of the session. Only Sauber's Esteban Gutierrez set a competitive time during the first 30 minutes of the final practice session of the season. As conditions improved with 25 minutes remaining, several drivers opted to venture out onto the circuit. Lewis Hamilton took top […]

Drivers to trial 2014 tyres in Brazil practice

Formula 1 drivers will have the opportunity to test the latest specification prototype tyres during free practice in Brazil this week. Each car will be allocated two sets of tyres to be used in the first two practice sessions on Friday at the Interlagos circuit. The tyres will feature the 2014 construction and profile, with the 2014 medium compound. Pirelli is expected to adopt a more conservative approach due to the vast regulation changes, which include the introduction of 1.6 litre v6 engines. "Just like […]

Vettel snatches pole position from Webber in Austin

World champion Sebastian Vettel snatched pole position from team-mate Mark Webber during the final moments of qualifying for the United States Grand Prix. Webber held provisional pole position and lowered his own benchmark and Vettel appeared to be heading for second position after a tardy first and second sector. But Vettel lit up the timing screens in the final sector to steal pole from Webber. Romain Grosjean set the third fastest time, ahead of Nico Hulkenberg and 2012 race winner Lewis Hamilton. Fernando Alonso was […]

Button: It wasn't a dangerous situation

Jenson Button says that he didn't cause a dangerous situation by overtaking under red flags during practice for the United States Grand Prix but accepted that he had to be given a penalty. Button overtook Daniil Kvyat's Toro Rosso after the session was suspended due to technical problems with the medical helicopter. As a result, Button will drop three place on the grid from wherever he qualifies. "Both sessions today were quite positive," Button said after setting the ninth fastest time. "Our car’s feeling reasonably […]

Happy Vettel still seeking improvements

World champion Sebastian Vettel says he was happy with the handling of the Red Bull RB9 after setting the fastest time during practice for the United States Grand Prix. Vettel, who was only 18th in first practice, was quickest on both compound tyres and demonstrated rapid long run pace around the Circuit of the Americas. "The circuit was quite slippery today; I was happy with the car, but you always know you can improve here and there," he said. "I think we got through the […]

United States Grand PrixView

Formula 1 returns to the United States of America for the penultimate round of the 2013 season, at the Circuit of the Americas near Austin, Texas, with Sebastian Vettel seeking his eighth successive victory. It’s safe to say that the 2013 season is ending with a whimper rather than a bang but while attention is turning to 2014, there are still two races to run this year and they both take place at fabulous circuits. The first of the final back-to-back events of 2013 takes […]

McLaren 'lacked organisation and humility' says Perez

Sergio Perez's marriage to McLaren seems definitely over, as the Mexican criticised the great British team at the tail end of its disappointing 2013 season. Multiple authoritative sources are reporting that the Woking based team has decided to replace Perez after just a single season with its development rookie Kevin Magnussen. It is unlikely McLaren will make the news official before this weekend's US grand prix, as the Austin circuit is just 250 miles from Mexico, making it Perez's de-facto 'home' race. But Perez this […]
