Nico Rosberg expressed his elation as he recovered from an electronics issue to record pole position at the German Grand Prix. Rosberg had to abort his first effort in Q3 when his Mercedes W07 Hybrid developed a problem, forcing him to return to the pits for the glitch to be resolved. Nico Rosberg secured pole position for his home race as he beat Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton during qualifying at Hockenheim. Rosberg recovered from an electronics issue on his first Q3 run to sweep to top spot with a time of 1:14.363. Rosberg’s lap proved to be 0.107s up on Hamilton, who drifted slightly wide at Turn 1 and locked up into the hairpin on his final effort. Max Verstappen feels Red Bull is "not too far off" Mercedes in terms of long-run pace following Friday's practice sessions for the German Grand Prix. Mercedes Nico Rosberg maintained his advantage as he led the way during the second practice session for the German Grand Prix. Rosberg, on the Super Soft tyres, registered a time of 1:15.614, a tenth slower than his effort from the morning, to finish 0.394s up on Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton says he still feels as if he is behind Nico Rosberg in the title standings due to his precarious engine situation, following woes across the first few races of the campaign. Mercedes young driver Esteban Ocon will receive another FP1 outing at the German Grand Prix as part of his duties with Renault. Ocon has taken part in three Friday sessions this season, in Spain, Britain and Hungary, and will return to the cockpit of the RS.16 at Hockenheim. Championship leader Nico Rosberg clocked the quickest time for Mercedes during the final practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, narrowly edging out Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Nico Rosberg moved to the front of the time sheets during the second practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix as Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton crashed out.
