Valtteri Bottas admits that he is mad with himself despite finishing a career best sixth in the Australian Grand Prix.
Bottas was hounding Ferrari's Fernando Alonso when he clipped the wall at turn nine and damaged his wheel. He pitted for repairs and battled back through the field.
"I haven’t seen the results but I’m quite mad with myself for the mistake," he said.
"I'm not so happy about that but I need to learn from it. I'm pretty sure I’m not going to do that mistake again, after that the race was good and we had good pace.
"I was trying to recover and make up mistake as much as I could. We have to see how much we lost but it was my mistake. Now we already have nearly double the points of last year so the team is happy and we’re going to have a good season."
Williams deputy team principal Claire Williams praised Bottas's drive.
"Valtteri drove an amazing race," she said.
"It’s always anxious as you have no control. Valtteri’s a safe pair of hands and always so calm and collected – I think he overtook about 20 cars and he made clean passes and he did a good job."
