Jules Bianchi believes that Marussia can enjoy a comparatively strong performance at this weekend's Italian Grand Prix after he finished in 17th place during Friday's second practice session. Bianchi, who progressed through to Q2 in Belgium, ended the day faster than both Lotus drivers and was encouraged by Marussia's pace. "It’s great to be back here at Monza, at the start of what I think can be a promising weekend," he said. "It has taken us the two sessions to get the car much closer […]
Max Chilton is expecting the issue surrounding his contract to be resolved before the Italian Grand Prix next month, after it was announced that the Brit would be replaced by reserve driver Alexander Rossi for this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix. Marussia announced on Thursday afternoon that Rossi will make his Formula 1 debut in place of Chilton this weekend due to 'contractual issues' with their regular driver. Chilton released a statement through his management company following the news that confirmed his decision to step aside […]
Alexander Rossi will make his Formula 1 debut for Marussia this weekend after replacing Max Chilton at the team. Rossi joined Marussia as reserve driver at the Hungarian Grand Prix but he will step up to a race seat while Marussia resolves 'contractual issues' with Chilton. "It goes without saying that I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to race in Formula 1 for the first time and I cannot thank Marussia enough for the faith they are demonstrating in me," he said. "It’s […]
Jules Bianchi says he was relieved to finish the Hungarian Grand Prix after being hit by Pastor Maldonado. Maldonado tried to make a move on the Marussia driver but the duo made contact, with Maldonado spinning and Bianchi sustaining a puncture. Bianchi went on to finish the race in 15th position but believes the damage to his car compromised the remainder of his race. "That was a tough race for me because I had to drive for more than 50 laps with a damaged car […]
Alexander Rossi has joined Marussia as the team's official reserve driver. Rossi has undertaken the role for Caterham for the past couple of years but departed the team following its takeover by a group of Swiss and Middle Eastern investors. Rossi, 22, will deputise for either Jules Bianchi or Max Chilton in the event that they are unable to compete. "Today is a good day and next step in my Formula 1 career," said Rossi. "Since my initial discussions with the Marussia management, I’ve felt […]
Jules Bianchi says he is not fazed by switching from Marussia to Ferrari for the second day of the third in-season test at Silverstone. Bianchi, who conducted tyre testing in the MR-03 on Tuesday morning, ended the day in fifth position, although his 108 lap programme came to an end due to a small fire. The Frenchman will replace Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari for the second day of testing on Wednesday, as the Finn continues to rest following his accident in Sunday's British Grand Prix. […]
Max Chilton has been penalised after being deemed to be the guilty party in a collision with Marussia team-mate Jules Bianchi. Chilton clipped Bianchi at turn three, with the resulting contact sending Bianchi into the wall on the exit of turn four. Both drivers were forced to retire, marking Chilton's first ever failure to finish in his Formula 1 career. "The incident between myself and Jules obviously ended not only our own races but also the team’s, so it’s sad for all the guys after […]
Max Chilton believes that Marussia's performance during qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix shows that their progress is genuine, and not the product of luck. Marussia scored their maiden points in the sport after Jules Bianchi finished in ninth place in Monaco, but Chilton believes that the pace of the MR-03 in Montreal shows that the car is improving. Chilton qualified in 18th place, just a tenth of a second shy of progressing through to the second segment of qualifying. "We came here off the […]
Marussia driver Jules Bianchi says that the team must start to consistently challenge Sauber, if they are to show that their progress is genuine. Bianchi scored his and Marussia's maiden points at the Monaco Grand Prix after finishing in ninth place, a result which moves Marussia into ninth in the constructors' championship, ahead of Sauber and Caterham. An optimistic Bianchi says that battling Sauber, which Marussia has done on occasion in 2014, must be their aim every race. "I’m very excited for this weekend," he […]
Marussia team principal John Booth believes that his squad can fight for more top 10 finishes in 2014. Jules Bianchi finished in ninth place at last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix to record the team's first points in over four years of Formula 1 competition. But Booth says that his team must now continue on their trajectory and not accept Monaco as the high point of their year. "We think that we can do it now," Booth told Crash.net. "We think that we can perform at […]
The high rate of attrition in last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix resulted in a flash back to the past - and a little bit of magic
Double world champion Fernando Alonso has praised Jules Bianchi after the French racer finished in the top 10 at last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. Bianchi, a member of Ferrari's Driver Academy, finished the race in ninth place to collect not only his first Formula 1 points, but the first for Marussia in over four years of competition. Alonso believes that Bianchi is on course for a great career in Formula 1. "We spend a lot of time together in Maranello, we play football, we go […]
