Max Chilton is expecting the issue surrounding his contract to be resolved before the Italian Grand Prix next month, after it was announced that the Brit would be replaced by reserve driver Alexander Rossi for this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix.

Marussia announced on Thursday afternoon that Rossi will make his Formula 1 debut in place of Chilton this weekend due to 'contractual issues' with their regular driver.

Chilton released a statement through his management company following the news that confirmed his decision to step aside was voluntary and that he hopes to return at Monza.

'Max Chilton has volunteered to step out of his race seat for this weekend’s race at Spa to allow the team to attract much-needed funds by selling his seat', said a statement.

'Max will attend the race and be on hand to support the team in any way possible

'Marussia are currently in talks with several new investors and it is expected that the situation will be resolved before the next F1 race in the calendar at Monza.'
