Heineken inks deal with Formula 1

Heineken has announced that it has become a global partner of Formula 1, commencing with title sponsorship of this year’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Heineken will have a major presence within the sport and plans to have substantial branding trackside, as well as video content, fan initiatives and other events. FIA opens process for 2017 tyre deal

Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, has formally opened the process for tyre companies to register an interest in becoming the sole official tyre supplier from 2017, according to the Official F1 website. Pirelli has supplied tyres since the start of 2011 but its current deal expires at the end of 2016, with the FIA opening the process for the period between 2017 and 2019. Pirelli announces compounds for flyaway races

Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli has confirmed the compound choices for the opening four rounds of the 2015 season. The yellow-banded Soft tyres and white-banded Mediums will be used in Australia, China and Bahrain. The Medium, along with the orange-banded Hard tyres, will be available in Malaysia. The selection is the same as the corresponding events from 2014, despite the minor modifications which Pirelli has made to its P-Zero tyres.

Formula 1 considering Friday reshuffle

Formula 1 is considering altering its Friday programme in a bid to cut costs in the sport. Currently there are two 90 minute practice sessions on Friday, but proposals are set to be put forward which could lead one of the 90 minute sessions to be culled. Drivers supportive of penalty points

Formula 1 drivers say that the new penalty points system is a positive move for the sport. From 2014, stewards have been able to endorse a driver's super license with penalty points if they are deemed to have transgressed. Formula 1 must remain attractive to potential new teams, according to Williams deputy team principal Claire Williams. Bernie Ecclestone revealed last weekend that two new teams could join the sport in 2015 but in Bahrain FIA president Jean Todt confirmed that plans for a cost cap have been scrapped. GP2 adopts Formula 1 tyre rule

Organisers of the GP2 Series have confirmed that Formula 1's feeder series will adopt the rule stating that both tyre compounds must be used in the feature race. The GP2 drivers race twice across a weekend, with the feature race usually taking place after Formula 1's qualifying session.
