Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, has formally opened the process for tyre companies to register an interest in becoming the sole official tyre supplier from 2017, according to the Official F1 website. Pirelli has supplied tyres since the start of 2011 but its current deal expires at the end of 2016, with the FIA opening the process for the period between 2017 and 2019. Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli has confirmed the compound choices for the opening four rounds of the 2015 season. The yellow-banded Soft tyres and white-banded Mediums will be used in Australia, China and Bahrain. The Medium, along with the orange-banded Hard tyres, will be available in Malaysia. The selection is the same as the corresponding events from 2014, despite the minor modifications which Pirelli has made to its P-Zero tyres.

Formula 1 is considering altering its Friday programme in a bid to cut costs in the sport. Currently there are two 90 minute practice sessions on Friday, but proposals are set to be put forward which could lead one of the 90 minute sessions to be culled.
