Formula 1 is considering altering its Friday programme in a bid to cut costs in the sport.

Currently there are two 90 minute practice sessions on Friday, but proposals are set to be put forward which could lead one of the 90 minute sessions to be culled.

Furthermore, the one session could take place later in the day in a bid to attract more fans following work commitments.

The move would aid the sport's attempts to cut costs as it would reduce the number of days in the Formula 1 'weekend'.

At the moment, Thursday is devoted to race previews and media activities, but under new plans these could take place on Friday morning, ahead of one single late practice session.

The changes have yet to be finalised, although it is understood that the plans have been approved by the Formula 1 Strategy Group. Any proposals will still need to be put to the World Motor Sport Council before it can be implemented into the 2015 sporting regulations.
