Alonso: Weekend better than expected

Fernando Alonso says that the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend was 'better than expected' for McLaren, despite neither he nor team-mate Jenson Button finishing the second round of the campaign. Alonso was forced out of the race due to an ERS issue on lap 21 but says that his pace during the early stint of the race gave him encouragement. "This whole weekend has been better than I expected," he said. "The main positive to take away from today is the fact that we were able […]

Ericsson accepts blame for early off

Marcus Ericsson took the blame for his early exit at the Malaysian Grand Prix as he spun out of a top 10 position. Having passed Max Verstappen on the opening lap, Ericsson tried to go around the outside of Nico Hulkenberg at Turn 1 but lost the rear end of the Sauber and ended up in the gravel. "It is a very frustrating end to a good weekend," he said, having started from ninth place. "I felt comfortable in the car straight away and had […]

Force India driver Sergio Perez said that his contact with Romain Grosjean was simply a racing incident, after he was handed a 10 second penalty for the collision. Grosjean attempted to go around the outside of Perez at Turn 12 but the pair made contact, with Grosjean spinning and Perez continuing on his way. But the stewards deemed that Perez was to blame and handed down a sanction before the Mexican went on to finish outside of the points in 13th place. "We knew ahead […]

Rosberg urges Mercedes to improve communication

Nico Rosberg has queried the levels of communication within Mercedes after he finished in third position at the Malaysian Grand Prix. Mercedes was outsmarted by Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel, with the German claiming victory ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Rosberg could only manage third after losing out at the first pit stop and having to negotiate his way through yet-to-pit rivals. "It’s difficult as the engineers aren’t in the race cars, they have computers and numbers but we have nothing and I struggle to know what […]

Mercedes' Nico Rosberg admitted he was annoyed with his own performance as he missed out on a front row slot for the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang. "I just didn’t drive well enough," he said. "I’m annoyed by that. Third place is not good for tomorrow, but that’s the way it is. "It was quite interesting conditions out there, […]

Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel says he is hoping to take the fight to Mercedes at the Malaysian Grand Prix after splitting Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg during a wet qualifying session at Sepang. Vettel set a time within a tenth of a second of Hamilton's pole time and managed to beat Rosberg to claim Ferrari's first front row start in two years. "Obviously when it starts to rain to here, which there is always a high chance, then it can mix up things, so… I […]

Grosjean made it through to the top 10 shootout and qualified in eighth position in the wet Q3 session, but will […]
