Abiteboul encouraged by Caterham progression

Caterham team principal Cyril Abiteboul says that their season is developing as expected, despite currently sitting in last place in the championship. Abiteboul conceded that the Canadian Grand Prix was underwhelming for Caterham, but most other events have met with expectation. "It’s fair to say our last race in Canada was disappointing, but looking at the season overall we’re probably about where we thought we would be," Abiteboul told The Official Formula 1 website. "But that does not mean that we are where we want […]

Pirelli confirm no tyre construction changes

Pirelli has confirmed that there will be no changes to the construction of the PZero tyre, contrary to initial plans. Pirelli had intended to bring a modified tyre to the British Grand Prix but these plans have now changed. "This decision is due to the fact that the new tyres, which were brought to the Friday free practice sessions in Canada, could not be tested sufficiently due to rain – and that the teams failed to agree unanimously about introducing the changes," read a Pirelli […]

Williams disappointed ranks of Finnish journalists this week by failing to announce the extension of rookie Valtteri Bottas' contract. The reporters were summoned to Helsinki for a press conference, to be attended by the 23-year-old as well as his F1 team boss, Sir Frank Williams. Surely, the journalists thought, it will be announced that Bottas' contract will be extended to include 2014, particularly after deputy boss Claire Williams said the Oxfordshire based team is "convinced we have a future world champion on our hands". "You feel you are racing and you are competing." Alonso admitted he was happier with the standard of driving in Canada […]

Lewis Hamilton expressed his delight after taking his third podium of the season in Canada. Vergne thrilled by top six finish

Jean-Eric Vergne says it is 'incredible' to finish sixth in the Canadian Grand Prix. Vergne secured his best Formula 1 result in Canada and Toro Rosso's first top six finish since 2008. "Incredible! I’m very happy. The best result for me of course, but also the highest finishing position since Vettel’s results for the team in 2008," he said. "It is even more satisfying, because it was a normal race in the dry, with no one going out in front of me so we achieved […]

Lewis Hamilton says a mistake during the closing moments of Q3 cost him pole position in Canada. Hamilton was setting similar sector times to Sebastian Vettel but ran wide at the final chicane. "It's good to be up on the front row again but I am a little disappointed with my last lap. I was seven-tenths up going into the last corner which was really slippery and unfortunately I went straight on," he said. "I would have lost time there anyway as it was so […]
