Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn reckons her squad can end their three race barren run in Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix. Nico Hulkenberg will start from eleventh place, with team-mate Esteban Gutierrez in fifteenth. "It was an exciting qualifying. The team improved significantly compared to yesterday. The fact that Nico didn’t make it into Q3 was tough luck. From where we are now, we have a good base for the race tomorrow and points should be possible," she said. Hulkenberg says the red flag, brought out […]

Jean-Eric Vergne says he is not getting carried away despite achieving the best qualifying result of his Formula 1 career. Vergne progressed through to Q3 for the second successive race and set the seventh fastest time in Canada. But the Frenchman insists that he remains focused on bagging a haul of points in Sunday's race. "The car wasn’t exceptional, but we got the most out of it I think," he said. "It was tough driving out there, but in the end it worked as is […]

Sebastian Vettel secured his third successive pole in Canada after mastering the slippery conditions in Montreal. The reigning world champion set a time of 1:25.425 to beat Lewis Hamilton by almost a tenth of a second. Williams's Valtteri Bottas was the star of the show as the Finn set the third fastest time in Q3. Monaco Grand Prix winner Nico Rosberg was fourth, ahead of Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso. Jean-Eric Vergne was seventh, with Adrian Sutil, Kimi Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo rounding out the […]

Alexander Rossi says it was great to return to a Formula 1 car after taking part in first practice for the Canadian Grand Prix. Rossi, who is competing for Caterham's eponymous team in GP2, finished in twentieth place in the 90 minute session. Rossi also took part in practice for last season's Spanish Grand Prix, as well as the young driver test in Abu Dhabi. "It was great to get back into F1 action and to do so in Canada, at a track I’ve raced […]

Practice pacesetter Fernando Alonso says he is expecting a complicated weekend due to the unpredictable weather in Canada. Alonso was quickest in second practice, 0.012s ahead of Mercedes's Lewis Hamilton. "We didn’t manage to complete our programme because the track was wet in the morning and so only on Saturday will we find out if the updates we tested here produce a real performance evolution," he said. "The only certainty is that we must ensure we make the right decisions, because today we saw how […]

Nico Hulkenberg expressed his frustration after a dismal practice session for Sauber in Canada. Hulkenberg was eighteenth quickest in second practice, just a tenth of a second ahead of Marussia's Jules Bianchi. "The car felt undriveable and mid-session we found a set-up error," he said. "But even after we corrected that, we still had difficulties. I am not happy with the current set-up, we have to improve that and have quite a bit of work to do." Team-mate Esteban Gutierrez ran towards the front during […]

Oh, Canada... It's round seven of the 2013 championship.

If Pirelli's tyre tweak is introduced for Silverstone, it will almost certainly be the last change in 2013, Paul Hembery has revealed. Following criticism of the four-stop strategies seen at times early this season, the Italian marque wanted to make more radical changes for Canada this weekend. Instead, only a minor tweak will be tested on Friday morning, and pending the agreement of the teams, the change - to solve the rear delamination problems seen this year - could be introduced for the British grand […]

The 'test-gate' saga is likely to be the big topic of conversation this weekend in Canada. The Red Bull camp, in particular, is keeping the heat on Mercedes, in light of the shock news in Monaco that the German team tested in secret for Pirelli at Barcelona with its current race drivers and 2013 car. World champion Sebastian Vettel told Sport Bild: "It's funny, when the rules prohibit testing, and then a team goes testing." He said it is obvious Mercedes have obtained an unfair […]

It has emerged that Mercedes conducted a private three day tyre test following the Spanish Grand Prix. Autosport and BBC Sport claim ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix that the Brackley based team carried out over 1000 kilometres of running. It is understood the tyres tested were the modified tyres, which will be introduced at next month's Canadian Grand Prix. Also tested were prototype 2014 tyres, should Pirelli continue in the sport. Pirelli claims they are permitted to call on a team should the situation […]
