Pirelli to only change rear tyres for Canada

The 'T-word' was still the big topic of conversation as the F1 world congregated in Monaco on Wednesday. But the big paddock whisper is that changes to Pirelli's 2013 tyres will be only minor in Montreal next month and beyond. According to the strong and widespread rumour, the only minor change will be to the rear tyres -- which is good news for Ferrari and Lotus, and not-so-good for Mercedes and Red Bull. "Anything else would be unfair," Lotus' Kimi Raikkonen is quoted by Auto […]

Pirelli confirms Canada changes less than announced

Pirelli on Monday essentially confirmed reports the F1 supplier will now make only minimal changes to its tyres for Canada next month and beyond. After the waves of controversy and criticism following the Spanish grand prix, the Italian marque announced it would be making structural and compound changes for Montreal that should reduce the number of pitstops per race. But, after Lotus and Ferrari sided strongly against Red Bull and Mercedes, the FIA reportedly also hit back behind the scenes, confirming that the rules say […]

Lauda hails Pirelli's tyre change

Niki Lauda has hailed Pirelli's move to alter the design of its 2013 tyres ahead of the Canadian grand prix next month and beyond. "It's clear that Pirelli have found themselves in a difficult situation and under pressure from different quarters," team boss Eric Boullier said. "I hope they (the changes) are not too extreme." Within the pitlane, the bulk of the 'pressure' […]

Pirelli making tyre change for own image says Red Bull

Pirelli has denied claims it is making major changes to its 2013 tyre design as a result of the pressure applied by world champions Red Bull. However, before deciding to make the changes, Pirelli's Paul Hembery had warned that a reaction like that could hand the […]

Pirelli to tweak tyres from Canada

Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery has confirmed that changes will be made to the 2013 tyres. The tweaks will come into effect from next month's Canadian Grand Prix. Several leading drivers, including race winner Fernando Alonso, made four stops during the Spanish Grand Prix. "From Canada changes to be made to bring back 2 to 3 stops.
