Leimer takes first GP2 win of 2013

Swiss racer Fabio Leimer took the spoils as the GP2 season kicked off in Malaysia. Leimer passed pole sitter Stefano Coletti with five laps remaining while the Rapax driver was also passed by James Calado as he struggled with his tyres. Coletti takes pole for GP2 opener

Rapax's Stefano Coletti has taken the early lead in the GP2 championship after setting the fastest time in qualifying in Malaysia. Coletti's time edged out James Calado by 0.004s, with the same difference separating Calado from Felipe Nasr in third place. Fabio Leimer was fourth, ahead of top rookie Mitch Evans in fifth place. Webber protégé Evans joins GP2

Mitch Evans will race in GP2 this season after signing for Arden International. The New Zealand racer won the GP3 title in 2012, driving for MW Arden. Felix da Costa to return to FR3.5

Red Bull young driver Antonio Felix da Costa will return to Formula Renault 3.5 in 2013 with Arden Caterham. Felix da Costa raced in GP3 in 2012, finishing in third place. The Portuguese driver also took part in FR3.5 last year, claiming fourth in the championship despite missing the first five races. Daniel Abt to step up to GP2 with Lotus

GP3 runner-up Daniel Abt will step up to GP2 with Lotus in 2013. The 20 year old German driver will join James Calado at the French team, who stays on for a second season in the series. GP2 Championship leader Davide Valsecchi took another victory in the standalone Feature race in Bahrain. Valsecchi started from second on the grid but soon overhauled pole sitter Giedo van der Garde when the Caterham driver began to suffer from used tyres.
