Two podiums from the last two races for Formula 1’s most popular returnee in 2012. Here, Kimi looks ahead to Monaco. Barcelona was your second podium in a row for the team; how was it from your perspective? To be honest, I was a little disappointed. I expected us to be a bit stronger in the race, especially at the beginning. In the last stint we were very good, but it was too late. We were not fast enough to race and that’s why we […]
Highly motivated and excited, the Sauber F1 Team heads to the most prestigious Grand Prix of the year. The Sauber C31-Ferrari’s performance has further improved since the introduction of the recent development package, and now it remains to be seen how this works on the narrow street circuit of Monaco. Kamui Kobayashi had a great race in the principality in 2011, and Sergio Pérez can’t wait to finally make it onto the grid at the Formula One race in Monte Carlo for the first time […]
Sebastian Vettel has defended his former mentor Michael Schumacher. The seven time world champion has been roundly criticised since last Sunday's Spanish grand prix, after crashing into Williams' Bruno Senna at the end of the Barcelona straight. He called the Brazilian driver an "idiot" on the radio and later defended the outburst, but the FIA did not agree, imposing a five-place qualifying penalty for Monte Carlo for causing a collision. "For us, that manoeuvre of Michael's cost us a lot," Red Bull team principal Christian […]
The oddest element of the 2012 season so far is that the unlikeliest of candidates could now be genuine title contenders. Before the Spanish grand prix weekend, Pastor Maldonado was a commonly derided 'pay driver' with 500-1 odds of winning in Barcelona, and just a single point to his name in 2011. Now, he is F1's newest pole-getter and race victor, and genuinely regarded as a potential contender for the world championship. And Dr Helmut Marko, the reigning world champion Red Bull's motor racing manager, […]
Two days after winning in Spain, Williams is scrambling to put together the equipment it needs to contest next weekend's Monaco grand prix. Mere hours after Pastor Maldonado secured the once-great British team's first victory since 2004, a huge fire broke out in the pits, leaving one team member still in a Barcelona hospital with burns. "His family are in constant communication and he is in good spirits," Williams said in a media statement. The Oxfordshire based team is now making efforts to ensure it […]
Michael Schumacher has been issued a 5-place grid penalty for the Monaco Grand Prix, after the 7-time World Champion was deemed to have caused the collision between himself and Bruno Senna. Both drivers subsequently retired after the incident, with both blaming each other for the collision. After Michael Schumacher proceeded to call the Brazilian driver an idiot straight after the incident, the race stewards announced they would investigate the incident after the race. And after a stunningly entertaining event, the stewards have finally come to […]
Ferrari's task is to improve step by step, rather than make a quantum leap in Barcelona next weekend. That is the claim of Spaniard Fernando Alonso, as the famous Italian team disappointed some headline-writers on Tuesday by not launching a 'B' car at the Mugello test. "We have to take a step forward in Montmelo, one in Monte Carlo, another in Canada, and so on," Alonso is quoted by La Stampa, after topping the rain-affected first day of testing on Tuesday with the improved F2012 […]
Pirelli has revealed the tyre nominations for rounds four to six of this year’s FIA Formula One World Championship in Bahrain, Spain and Monaco. In Bahrain, the P Zero White medium tyre and P Zero Yellow soft tyre will be raced (the same nomination as Australia and China so far this year). In Spain, the P Zero Silver hard and P Zero Yellow soft will be used: the first time that this combination makes an appearance this year. Finally, the P Zero Yellow soft and […]
Sebastien Loeb takes a dominant victory in the opening round of the season
Sebastien Loeb continues to lead the Monte Carlo Rally after a third day of action, the quietest day of the rally so far. The rally now moves from Valence in Southern France to Monte Carlo, where the bulk of the remaining stages take place. With Loeb driving conservatively, it allowed new team mate Mikko Hirvonen to set a few fastest times. The Finn, who had been struggling, relished the conditions on SS12 and SS13 to close the gap to Petter Solberg. Dani Sordo holds second […]
Sebastien Loeb's domination of the opening round of the WRC season in Monte Carlo continued on day two of the rally. Loeb now leads by 97 seconds after winning all but one of today's stages. The only stage not won by the world champion was SS8, when Dani Sordo trumped his former team mate by 0.2s. The most exciting battle is for second place, between Mini's Dani Sordo and Ford's Petter Solberg, as the duo continue to swap places on a regular basis. Dry conditions […]
