Marko: I take the final decision at Red Bull

In the wake of the 'Multi-21' team orders debacle, an important question has emerged at Red Bull -- who is really in charge? On the one side is team boss Christian Horner, who co-owns a GP3 team with Australian Webber, and who called Sebastian Vettel "silly" in Malaysia for refusing to follow the famous order. But not only have the sort of team orders that should have delivered victory to Webber now been scrapped by Red Bull, it seems the Australian driver's very future at […]

Rossi gets Canada practice run

Caterham reserve driver Alexander Rossi will test for the team in first practice at the Canadian Grand Prix next month. Rossi was due to drive in Bahrain but was called up to Caterham's GP2 team, postponing his run. "The weekends that I'm not doing GP2 I'll be looking to be drive the F1 car in Friday practice sessions and that will start in Montreal, he told ESPN. "Beyond that I'll be doing at least one more, and possibly others, but it's hard to say exactly […]

Symonds: Financial issues affecting most teams

Marussia technical director Pat Symonds believes that most teams on the Formula 1 grid are concerned about their finances. Symonds, who previously worked at Renault, told Sky Sports that most teams are looking at their finances with a worried eye. When asked whether a 'financial straitjacket' was too strong a description about Marussia, Symonds replied "If anything, I don't think it's a strong enough description - it's really tough in Formula 1 at the moment." "The fact is, outside the top four teams everyone has […]

$10m fund for 2010 new teams to end

Bernie Ecclestone has said that Caterham and Marussia will no longer receive $10m on an annual basis. The lump sum was paid to the three teams who joined the grid in 2010 but this has now ceased. Only the top 10 teams will receive money under the new proposed Concorde Agreement. Marussia currently holds 10th place in the championship courtesy of Jules Bianchi's 13th place in Malaysia. The two teams held unsuccessful merger talks over the winter. Ecclestone also confirmed to The Daily Telegraph that […]

Ferrari 'calm' despite troubled start says Gene

Despite a mixed start to the 2013 campaign for Ferrari, test driver Marc Gene insists the mood at Maranello is "calm". Spaniard Alonso won in China earlier this month, but before that he retired after a crash in Malaysia, whilst last weekend in Bahrain his victory hopes collapsed due to an ultra-rare DRS rear wing failure. "It's the first problem of its kind on this system seen in the three years during which it has been used," the Italian team revealed in a media statement. […]

Domenicali urges perfection from Ferrari

Stefano Domenicali has reiterated his belief that Ferrari can fight for the title despite a difficult weekend in Bahrain. Fernando Alonso finished in eighth place following breakage of a mechanical component within his DRS while Felipe Massa was out of the points following two punctures. The result leaves Alonso 30 points behind reigning champion Sebastian Vettel. "It’s hard to recall a race where so many things went wrong," said Domenicali. "We must continue to develop the car and increase our understanding of the tyres, which […]

Lotus tougher challenger than Ferrari admits Marko

According to Dr Helmut Marko, Lotus is a bigger challenger to Red Bull's championship hopes in 2013 than Ferrari. Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel are leading Lotus and Kimi Raikkonen in both the constructors' and drivers' world championships after the first four 'flyaway' races. But it might be argued that the bulk of Ferrari's deficit is because of Fernando Alonso's crash in Malaysia and malfunctioning DRS rear wing flap in Bahrain. Asked, however, if Red Bull expected Lotus' Raikkonen to be challenging so hard in […]

Di Resta confident, Sutil not comfortable

Paul di Resta is confident of a strong result heading into qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix, but team-mate Adrian Sutil admits he is not completely comfortable with the Force India VJM06. Di Resta finished in sixth place in Bahrain last season and was again troubling the frontrunners by setting the fifth fastest time in both practice sessions. "As Fridays go it’s been positive and we’ve achieved as much as we could realistically have hoped for," said the British driver. "The car is working well […]

No current race plans for Kovalainen

Caterham reserve driver Heikki Kovalainen insists that he currently has no race plans as he prepares for his Formula 1 return in Bahrain. Kovalainen raced in the sport for six seasons, winning the 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix for McLaren. The Finn moved to Caterham but his contract was not renewed at the end of 2012. But on Wednesday it was announced that Kovalainen will return to the team as a reserve driver, competing in FP1 in Bahrain and Spain. "There's no plans to race at […]
