Hulkenberg pleased with Force India 'sacrifices'

Nico Hulkenberg says that Force India is benefiting from sacrificing the second half of their 2013 season. Force India stopped developing their 2013 car prematurely in order to focus on their 2014 machine. The team suffered in 2013 as they slipped back but have benefited in 2014 after finishing every race in the top six and having claimed a podium in Bahrain courtesy of Sergio Perez. "I think new regulations create a reset for all teams," Hulkenberg told Times of India. "It changes the established […]

Perez believes Force India podium possible

Sergio Perez says that he can challenge for the podium after qualifying in fifth place for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Perez has had a difficult start to the season and has picked up just a solitary point so far in 2014 but the Mexican will start the race from the second row of the grid following a penalty for Daniel Ricciardo. "It was definitely a great qualifying session and the team did a fantastic job to give me such a competitive car," he said. "After […]

Force India duo upbeat with progress

Force India drivers Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg cut upbeat figures after practice for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Perez was ninth quickest in the second session, while Hulkenberg was 13th fastest in the VJM07. "Today was positive; we managed to complete our programme and we're quite happy with the car, especially on the prime tyre," said Perez. "I was able to complete some long runs and that will give us plenty to analyse tonight." Team-mate Hulkenberg reckons Force India has a good starting point for […]

Hulkenberg hoping to build on strong foundations

Nico Hulkenberg says that Force India has a strong foundation on which to build across the 2014 season. Hulkenberg finished the Australian Grand Prix in sixth place and raced to fifth in Malaysia, giving him 18 points after the opening two rounds of the year. Force India has traditionally fared well in Bahrain - former driver Paul di Resta was fourth last season - and Hulkenberg believes Force India has a good base on which they can build. "We've had two good races and have […]

Satisfied Hulkenberg wary of tyres

Nico Hulkenberg declared himself content after practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix but remained wary about the state of the tyres. Hulkenberg rounded out the top 10 in second practice but feels that Force India has work to do with regards to the tyre wear. "I think we can be satisfied with what we learned today," he said. "We worked through the programme and there were no big issues on my side. Of course, the hot weather here means conditions are tough and we found […]

Perez sure Force India moving in right direction

Sergio Perez says that Force India is moving in the right direction ahead of this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix. Perez finished in 10th place in Australia although his race was compromised by a first lap collision. "We had a good start and a great first few corners, and we were up to tenth place," he said. "Then [Esteban] Gutierrez locked his rears and came from nowhere. I actually saw him in my mirrors, but I was already turning into the corner. Once he hit me […]

Hulkenberg expecting rapid development rate

Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg is expecting a rapid development rate as the 2014 season progresses. Hulkenberg finished in sixth place in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix and believes the pecking order will change on a race-by-race basis in 2014. "This year we'll see bigger jumps and changes in the pecking order during the season," he said. "There are still some teams that need to sort out their issues and they will probably become stronger. All teams, including us, will have room for improvement and […]

Force India: More performance required for podiums

Force India co-owner Vijay Mallya has praised his team's start to the year but acknowledges that improvements must be made if they are to challenge for podiums in 2014. Nico Hulkenberg finished the Australian Grand Prix in sixth place with Sergio Perez in tenth. Mallya believes the 'competitive' VJM07 has potential but is wary of the challenge ahead. "Australia was definitely a respectable start, without a doubt, and probably the best start we've had since I took over the team," said Mallya. "We went into […]

Hulkenberg targets points after 'entertaining' session

Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg says he is targeting a points finish after qualifying in seventh place for the Australian Grand Prix. Hulkenberg has yet to complete a racing lap in three attempts in Australia but feels he has a good car with which to amend that statistic. "The first qualifying session of the new season and we finished P7, which is good news. Everything went well today and it was an entertaining session, which I really enjoyed," he said. "It was the first time […]

Hulkenberg eyeing points in Melbourne

Nico Hulkenberg says that Force India should be in the hunt for points at next weekend's Australian Grand Prix. Hulkenberg has yet to complete a single racing lap in three attempts in Australia but reckons Force India is in a strong position to profit early on in the year. "The car has come a long way since Jerez," he said. "We made steps at each test and I think we made very good use of the time we had available. We signed off a lot […]

Is Formula 1 ready to Feel the Force?

With Mercedes engines, a lengthy focus on 2014 and a strong driver line-up, is this Force India’s best chance? Force India has been a mainstay of the midfield across the past few seasons. After their shock result at Spa in 2009, the team has spent four years gathering points and flitting between sixth and seventh in the championship.  The podium has so far remained an elusive goal during that period but 2014 could be Force India’s opportunity to pull off some giant-killing performances. Force India […]

Juncadella joins Force India as reserve driver

Spanish driver Daniel Juncadella has been announced as Force India's reserve driver for the 2014 season. The 22-year-old won the Formula Three Euroseries title in 2012 and drove for Williams at last year's young driver test. Juncadella will continue to race in the DTM for Mercedes and also receive some Formula 1 outings during Friday practice sessions. "Joining Force India is a dream come true," he said. "It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to learn and will hopefully take me a step closer to eventually […]
