Force India duo confident of Hockenheim improvements

Force India pairing Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez believe the VJM07 will be better suited to Hockenheim after a difficult time at the previous event in Britain. Hulkenberg qualified in fourth on the grid but slipped to eighth by the finish, while team-mate Perez crossed the line in 11th after a first lap collision with Jean-Eric Vergne. Hulkenberg is sure the Silverstone-based team can enjoy a more fruitful round at his home race in Germany this weekend. "Even on tracks where we have been struggling […]

Force India: Fourth would be tremendous

Force India chief operating officer Otmar Szafnauer admits that finishing fourth in the 2014 Formula 1 constructors’ championship would be a 'tremendous' result for the Silverstone-based squad. The outfit is behind only 'factory teams' Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari in the standings after the Canadian Grand Prix, having racked up 77 points across the first seven races of the season. Force India's previous best result in the constructors' championship was sixth, which they achieved in 2011 and 2013. "Formula 1 is a difficult game as […]

Nico Hulkenberg labelled his start to the Monaco Grand Prix weekend as 'positive' after setting the seventh fastest time during second practice in Monaco. Perez expecting more driver mistakes

Sergio Perez expects the characteristics of the Monte Carlo street circuit to result in more driver errors at this weekend's event. Formula 1 racers face the streets of the Principality for the first time on Thursday under the sport's new regulations, with reduced downforce, harder tyres and increased torque. The Force India driver reckons that there could be more errors than in previous events. "It will be very interesting to see how we go around here – I think you’re going to see a lot […]

Force India duo optimistic despite Q2 exit

Force India drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez reckon they can recover positions in tomorrow's Spanish Grand Prix, despite their Q2 elimination. Hulkenberg qualified in 11th, marginally ahead of team-mate Perez in the sister VJM07. "My lap was very good and I am pleased with the effort we put in during qualifying," he said. "We made some steps forward with handling and set-up compared to FP3 this morning, but we still ended up a little bit short of Q3. Considering that we haven't been totally […]

Perez expects Mercedes to be beaten

Force India racer Sergio Perez says he expects current runaway leaders Mercedes to be caught by rivals later on in the season. Mercedes has romped to four successive pole positions and race victories and has opened up a 97 point advantage in the constructors' championship. But the Mexican reckons that Mercedes's closest challengers will eventually provide them with a sterner test. "I think so," he said when asked if Mercedes can be beaten. "Although they look very strong and they will be strong throughout the […]

Perez: Barcelona will suit us better

Sergio Perez believes that this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix will suit Force India better than the previous race in China. Perez finished the Chinese Grand Prix in ninth place but reckons his struggles were exacerbated by how well Force India performed in Bahrain, when he claimed a podium finish. "I think this track will be better for us," he said. "Of course it’s different to Bahran, but it’ll be important for us as a team to see where we are. We need to put the […]

Feature: Force India punching above its weight

Force India knew that they had a strong package ahead of the 2014 season, but travelling to the start of the European season sitting in third place in the championship has surely exceeded their expectations. More importantly, Force India hasn’t lucked into results through the misfortunes of others or a freak result. They’ve done it on merit. The Silverstone-based team switched their focus to 2014 early compared to some of their midfield rivals and they’re currently reaping the rewards. The VJM07 is a neatly packaged […]
