Chilton surprised by Manor Marussia survival

Former Formula 1 driver Max Chilton says he is surprised that Manor Marussia has lasted so long into 2015, following its revival at the start of the campaign. Chilton joined the squad under its Marussia guise as a test driver in 2012 before graduating to a full-time race seat in 2013. Chilton remained with the team in 2014 until it dropped off the grid following the Russian Grand Prix. Chilton has since raced in Indy Lights in the United States, alongside his drive with Nissan […]

Bianchi: Marussia ahead of Lotus

Jules Bianchi believes that Marussia can enjoy a comparatively strong performance at this weekend's Italian Grand Prix after he finished in 17th place during Friday's second practice session. Bianchi, who progressed through to Q2 in Belgium, ended the day faster than both Lotus drivers and was encouraged by Marussia's pace. "It’s great to be back here at Monza, at the start of what I think can be a promising weekend," he said. "It has taken us the two sessions to get the car much closer […]

Max Chilton is expecting the issue surrounding his contract to be resolved before the Italian Grand Prix next month, after it was announced that the Brit would be replaced by reserve driver Alexander Rossi for this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix. Marussia announced on Thursday afternoon that Rossi will make his Formula 1 debut in place of Chilton this weekend due to 'contractual issues' with their regular driver. Chilton released a statement through his management company following the news that confirmed his decision to step aside […]

Chilton penalised for Bianchi clash

Max Chilton has been penalised after being deemed to be the guilty party in a collision with Marussia team-mate Jules Bianchi. Chilton clipped Bianchi at turn three, with the resulting contact sending Bianchi into the wall on the exit of turn four. Both drivers were forced to retire, marking Chilton's first ever failure to finish in his Formula 1 career. "The incident between myself and Jules obviously ended not only our own races but also the team’s, so it’s sad for all the guys after […]

Chilton sure Marussia progress is genuine

Max Chilton believes that Marussia's performance during qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix shows that their progress is genuine, and not the product of luck. Marussia scored their maiden points in the sport after Jules Bianchi finished in ninth place in Monaco, but Chilton believes that the pace of the MR-03 in Montreal shows that the car is improving. Chilton qualified in 18th place, just a tenth of a second shy of progressing through to the second segment of qualifying. "We came here off the […]

Chilton reckons Marussia can catch Sauber

Max Chilton believes that Sauber is now within Marussia's sights following the Spanish Grand Prix. Chilton finished the race in 19th place, a few positions behind Sauber drivers Esteban Gutierrez and Adrian Sutil. "I’m really pleased that we’ve seen a good step forward here and we’ve been able to lift our performance versus the cars around us," he said. "We’ve definitely gained a really strong advantage on the Caterhams and the Saubers are now in our sights, so well done to the Team. On a […]

Straight line speed hurting Marussia - Bianchi

Jules Bianchi reckons a lack of straight line speed hurt Marussia during qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Bianchi qualified in 20th place for Sunday's race but was just a couple of tenths of a second down on Caterham's Kamui Kobayashi. "The car balance was pretty good today," he said. "We lost some time on the straight - 0.3s - which I thought we had got on top of and ultimately this cost us getting ahead of Kobayashi. It’s something we need to look at […]

Electronics and gearbox issues strike Bianchi

Jules Bianchi was left frustrated after several problems scuppered his chances during qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. Bianchi set the 18th fastest time but an electronics issue was exacerbated by gearbox woes which truncated the Frenchman's session. "After all the hard work from everybody this weekend, it is disappointing that we experienced an issue in qualifying which meant that I could not get the most from the car," he said. "Unfortunately we have experienced a few electronics problems again today and we thought we […]

Optimistic Bianchi sure of Marussia improvement

Jules Bianchi believes that Marussia can move up the Formula 1 grid this season. Bianchi made his Formula 1 debut for the team in 2013 and achieved a best result of 13th. The team has yet to score a point in four years of Formula 1. "It has been a very interesting winter preparing for this and I can’t wait to see where we stand versus the competition," said Bianchi. "The car feels good to drive and, especially in Bahrain last week, we saw a […]
