Valtteri Bottas is still sitting tight, in the hope he will get the nod to step into a race seat at Williams in 2013. The team's young Finnish 'Friday' driver is hotly tipped to be Pastor Maldonado's teammate next season, having impressed the British team this season. In his 14 morning practice outings in Bruno Senna's car this year, he has outpaced Maldonado a credible 6 times. Still, Williams is yet to announce its decision. "We need a little more time," 23-year-old Bottas is quoted […]

Jean Todt had a "constructive meeting" with Bernie Ecclestone and the twelve team bosses in Paris on Monday, the FIA said in a media statement. The meeting, at which a "fruitful and helpful debate" ensued, was to present the teams with the 2013 Concorde Agreement and "new conditions of entry". The FIA said it expects a "final settlement" in the "coming weeks". More detail emerged in the pages of Italy's Autosprint. The magazine said the meeting will continue on Tuesday, where it will be discussed […]

Narain Karthikeyan says he is in the running to keep his HRT seat next year. Reports this week suggested the Indian, who returned to F1 with the backmarker Spanish team after establishing a Nascar career in 2010, could revert to the American racing scene for 2013 and is currently seeking an Indycar test. But Karthikeyan, 35, said on Friday he actually deserves a better F1 seat. "I would definitely like the possibility since I have clearly proved that I have the speed to deserve a […]

Cosworth is for sale. Having lost its best F1 customers Williams and Caterham, in recent months it has been discussed as an open secret in the grand prix paddocks that the independent British engine supplier will not be on the grid in 2014 with a new turbo V6 power unit. Cosworth, however - still supplying V8s to backmarkers Marussia and HRT - insists it has a plan to stay in F1 beyond the current rules, even though rumours persist that it is not up to […]

Marussia admitted that their battle with Caterham in the Korean Grand Prix was hampered by the team not possessing KERS. Timo Glock finished narrowly behind Heikki Kovalainen but lamented a lack of KERS. "I was very excited at the start of the race as I could see that we could really challenge the Caterhams. I had a big chance in the middle stint and managed to close the gap like in Suzuka", he said. "Then we took the risk to go on to the Supersoft […]

Pedro de La Rosa says that he retired from the Korean Grand Prix on safety grounds. The Spanish racer pulled into the pits terminally on the seventeenth lap. "We were anticipating a tough race but the start was good. Unfortunately, we had a problem with the throttle pedal since the fifth lap", he said. "At the start it would get slightly jammed but as the laps went by it got worse so the team decided to pull me out. I think they made the right […]

Pedro de La Rosa admitted that simply finishing the Singapore Grand Prix was an achievement for HRT. The Spanish driver started at the back but made his way up to seventeenth place. "I’m satisfied with today’s race. The safety cars helped me out, but I must admit that the race dragged on a bit for me, and the last five laps never seemed to end because I had no tyres left and I started to lose ground on Glock and Pic and Kobayashi, Kovalainen and […]

All three HRT drivers took to the track for the first time in Singapore, with lead driver Pedro de La Rosa testing a new floor for the Spanish team. "In the first session we focused mainly on learning the circuit. It’s just as I expected, although tougher physically, especially in the first session. The second session was a bit easier, and as I already knew the circuit, we decided to set up the new floor" said the Spaniard. "Now we must analyze the data to […]

Pedro de La Rosa has confirmed that has said that he is set to continue with HRT in 2013. De La Rosa signed a two year contract with the Spanish team in 2011 and has re-iterated that those plans are still in tact. "I’ll stay here with HRT next year", he said. "Last year I signed a two-year contract - otherwise it wouldn’t have made any sense. When I joined the team I wanted a two-year deal; that was one of my basic terms because […]
Fernando Alonso is clearly the standout driver of the 2012 season so far, two of his peers have explained. Narain Karthikeyan, who usually brings up the rear of the field in his HRT, said the championship leader has performed above the level of the Ferrari. "Alonso is pulling out something much more than what that Ferrari is capable of," the Indian told the PTI news agency. "He is thinking a lot about it. Whether is wet or dry or whatever, he is still doing a […]

Williams driver Bruno Senna has said that he is targeting a top ten performance at this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix. The Brazilian finished in the points in the Italian Grand Prix during a weekend where Williams struggled. He is, however, optimistic that the nature of the Marina Bay Street Circuit will suit the FW34. "Singapore should suit our car because it’s a high downforce and load circuit and that’s where the car feels at home the most", he said. "Of course it’s hard to judge […]

The Motorsport community has been paying tribute to Formula One's former medical delegate, Sid Watkins, who has died at the age of 84. Watkins, known as 'The Prof', served as the head of Formula One's on track medical team and his campaigning has led to improved safety for all. Bruno Senna, Williams F1 driver: ‘RIP Prof. Sid Watkins. Sad news for us who stay behind.’ Ron Dennis, McLaren chairman: "Today the world of motor racing lost one of its true greats: Professor Sid Watkins. No, he […]
