With HRT bowing out of Formula One, Bernie Ecclestone would be happy to see the sport lose one more team. "I'd rather have 10," the F1 chief executive told Reuters on Thursday. "I never wanted 12." HRT's departure leaves just 11 teams on the grid for 2013. It emerged recently that the struggling backmarker Marussia is the only team on the 2013 entry list that is yet to be offered a new Concorde Agreement deal. "It's just that 10 is easier to handle, for the […]

Marussia is the only team on the official 2013 entry list that is yet to be offered a new Concorde Agreement deal. The German website motorsport-total.com reports that the news could be particularly bad for the Russian-owned British backmarker, as Bernie Ecclestone is apparently considering scrapping the so-called 'column 3' benefits for the sport's new teams that debuted in 2010. Presumably, Ecclestone wants to scrap the column-3 entitlements because Caterham has moved into a higher status due to regularly finishing tenth in the constructors' world […]

A good idea? Yes. But they can be improved...

McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton believes that the Circuit of the Americas is a real drivers' circuit. Hamilton was second quickest in practice, behind Sebastian Vettel. "This is a great drivers’ track – it’s very tough to pull together three perfect sectors. Personally, I find the final two sectors easier than the first; those high-speed changes of direction need a good set-up, and balancing that requirement against the demands of the slow-speed stuff is tricky", he said. "Turn One probably looks more exciting from the outside […]

Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time in second practice for the United States Grand Prix. Vettel spent a large part of the session in the garage as Red Bull noticed a water leak in his RB8. Vettel was seven tenths clear of team mate Mark Webber, with Fernando Alonso in third place. The McLarens of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button were fourth and fifth, ahead of Felipe Massa. Nico Rosberg, Bruno Senna, Kamui Kobayashi and Michael Schumacher rounded out the top ten. Abu Dhabi winner […]

Jean Todt had a "constructive meeting" with Bernie Ecclestone and the twelve team bosses in Paris on Monday, the FIA said in a media statement. The meeting, at which a "fruitful and helpful debate" ensued, was to present the teams with the 2013 Concorde Agreement and "new conditions of entry". The FIA said it expects a "final settlement" in the "coming weeks". More detail emerged in the pages of Italy's Autosprint. The magazine said the meeting will continue on Tuesday, where it will be discussed […]

An FIA statement has confirmed that Formula One teams have met with the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone with regards to the new Concorde Agreement. "During a constructive meeting, Jean Todt, the FIA President, in co-operation with Bernie Ecclestone, the Commercial Rights Holder, has presented to all F1 Team Principals the new structure of governance, including the new conditions of entry for the Concorde Agreement, starting in 2013." "All the participants in the meeting were encouraged to seek clarification which resulted in a fruitful and helpful […]

Jean Todt has dismissed suggestions he is willing to loosen the FIA's grip on Formula One in return for more money. Ahead of a crucial meeting between the FIA president, Bernie Ecclestone and the teams in Paris on Tuesday, the Financial Times reported speculation Frenchman Todt will agree to trade some of the federation's rule-making power for a bigger share of the sport's financial pie. "For me," Todt said, "the FIA must have a bigger impact, not erosion. "It makes me smile when I read […]

At a track that features such tricky corners as the Esses, Degner and 130R, it was Spoon curve that caught out a number of drivers on Friday. Paul di Resta crashed only six minutes into the second practice session when he dipped a wheel onto the grass on entry to the corner, spearing into the barrier and damaging his Force India. Later on in the session, Michael Schumacher's final Japanese Grand Prix Friday ended in almost identical fashion. Both drivers were physically uninjured, if a […]

Sebastian Vettel set the fastest lap time ahead of qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix. The German set two times good enough for first position and was comfortably faster than Lewis Hamilton. The session featured a couple of lurid moments. Sergio Perez clattered the barrier on the exit of Turn 18, as did Mark Webber later on in the session. The Australian returned to the pits with a punctured right rear tyre. Timo Glock suffered from a stuck throttle midway through the session. Fortunately the […]
