Sebastian Vettel set the fastest lap time ahead of qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix.
The German set two times good enough for first position and was comfortably faster than Lewis Hamilton.
The session featured a couple of lurid moments. Sergio Perez clattered the barrier on the exit of Turn 18, as did Mark Webber later on in the session. The Australian returned to the pits with a punctured right rear tyre.
Timo Glock suffered from a stuck throttle midway through the session. Fortunately the Marussia driver encountered the problem on the approach to Turn 20 and was able to apply the brakes before any impact with the wall.
The session was stopped prematurely courtesy of Vitaly Petrov. The Russian hit the wall on the exit of Turn 21, damaging his right rear suspension and spinning across the circuit, eventually parking the car in the pit entry.
