Teams and drivers at the back are given too little credit. Timo Glock in particular...

Fernandes rues lack of Malaysian support for Caterham

Tony Fernandes has admitted he would have liked corporate Malaysia to have backed his Formula 1 team. The Malaysian entrepreneur founded a UK based start-up team in 2010, calling it Team Lotus before a bitter spat developed with the Lotus name's owner Proton. "While I was building a Formula 1 team, I was being sued by my own countrymen," he told The Star newspaper. "We're the only true Formula 1 team developed in Malaysia." Now called Caterham, the team's only Malaysian sponsorship is from AirAsia […]

Vitaly Petrov believes Mugello is an unsafe track

Russian Formula 1 driver Vitaly Petrov has become the first and as of yet only driver to speak out negatively about the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello circuit, with the Caterham driver stating that the track isn’t wide enough and is too dangerous for F1 cars. This statement comes after the remaining drivers’ who have driven on the track this week announced their pleasure and sense of fulfillment in driving around the Mugello circuit. Mark Webber likened 10 laps around the track to 1000 around Abu […]

New experience as F1 tests at Mugello

Tuesday was a new experience for many F1 regulars; a rare in-season test on an unfamiliar track. Some teams wanted the three-day session to take place at Barcelona, saving money ahead of the Spanish grand prix at the same venue, but Ferrari pushed hard - reportedly even waiving the circuit rental fees - for its circuit in Tuscany to get the nod. The day did not start well weather-wise, but the spectators - reportedly 25,000, and visibly more than in Bahrain last weekend - came […]

Three wins in a week for Valsecchi

GP2 Championship leader Davide Valsecchi took another victory in the standalone Feature race in Bahrain. Valsecchi started from second on the grid but soon overhauled pole sitter Giedo van der Garde when the Caterham driver began to suffer from used tyres. Van der Garde initially extended his advantage to 1.8 seconds but Valsecchi eventually reeled in his rival and overtook him with an easy pass on the pit straight. Fabio Leimer also passed the Dutch driver, but Van der Garde held on for the final […]

F1 assesses fallout after damaging Bahrain saga

With the F1 world now returned from Bahrain, the sport is assessing the fallout of one of the most controversial grands prix in history. The drivers were conspicuously quiet over the saga in the island Kingdom, but - with no contract tying him down - former Force India driver Adrian Sutil admitted he was glad he was not there. "In a situation like that, it is probably better not to go," the German said on Sky Deutschland. "On the one hand, the decision was made […]

Force India, Ecclestone, deny Bahrain GP boycott

Force India deputy boss Bob Fernley has dismissed reports the Silverstone based team could pull out of the controversial Bahrain grand prix. Two members of the team were allowed to return to Europe this week following a Molotov cocktail attack en route from the Sakhir circuit to the hotel. There were high-level meetings involving Force India on Thursday, sparking speculation the entire team could follow its frightened members back to the UK. But Fernley, admitting that security has been ramped up after the incident, is […]

Rosberg takes pole for all-Mercedes front row in China

Nico Rosberg has secured his maiden pole-position for tomorrow’s Chinese Grand Prix after an absolute scorcher of a lap which saw the German qualify half a second ahead of Lewis Hamilton. With Lewis Hamilton set to take a 5-place grid penalty, it will be a Silver Arrows lock-out on the front row for the first time since the 1955 Italian Grand Prix. The first session of qualifying started with Ferrari offering no confidence to Felipe Massa, with the team stating they needed a miracle for […]

'Everybody or nobody' will race in Bahrain

The vast majority of the 12 F1 teams have declined to comment on the sport's deepening Bahrain crisis. With uncertainty surrounding the staging of next week's race at Sakhir by the controversial Bahraini government, CNN contacted every one of the competing teams. Nine declined to comment, but world champions Red Bull said the decision about whether or not teams attend belongs to the governing FIA. "It's not up to the teams to pick and choose which races we take part in," said a spokesman. Red […]

Group Lotus launches scathing attack

Group Lotus has launched a scathing attack against rumours that the company is in financial problems and that Dany Bahar has been relived of his duties. In a Press Release posted on their Facebook page, Group Lotus responded to a picture posted by Sniff Petrol, before criticising the fortunes of Caterham F1 team. Group Lotus also restated its commitment to the Lotus F1 Team until 2017. Here is the Press Release in it's entirety. "Never let the facts get in the way of a good […]

Group Lotus no longer Lotus team sponsor

Group Lotus will no longer sponsor the Formula One team that bears its name. But - as F1's perpetually bizarre 'Lotus' saga takes another twist - the Enstone based team, formerly Renault, will continue to be known as Lotus in the coming years. Last year, and in 2010, 'Lotus' was the name of the team that is now called Caterham, but a bitter dispute soured that relationship as the Proton-owned car company Group Lotus ended the naming license and made its own bid to enter […]

Slade: Raikkonen back at the top of his game

After two solid race performances in a row, Kimi Raikkonen's race engineer, Mark Slade is convinced that the Finn is back at the top of his game despite being away from Formula 1 for two seasons. "I think he's the same young kid who was a superstar when he arrived on the scene. He looks as fit as he's ever been and is absolutely at the top of his game as far as I can see," Slade said in an interview with Autosport. The Briton […]
