Vergne hoping for improved package

Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Jean Eric Vergne says he is hoping the STR7 can improve sufficiently to allow him to finish in the points in the Belgian Grand Prix. Vergne told F1Zone.net that he is not satisfied with just a sole points finish, achieved in the rain in Malaysia. "Scoring points once it’s for sure not so good. I always expect more but it’s gonna be difficult when it’s like this" When asked about his qualifying deficit to team mate Daniel Ricciardo, Vergne was optimistic […]

De La Rosa pleased with HRT gains

Spanish driver Pedro De La Rosa has expressed his satisfaction at the gains HRT has made in 2012. HRT failed to qualify for the Australian Grand Prix and, although they sit last in the championship, have been battling Marussia. "We’ve made steady progress but now we’re at a key moment and we must take another step forward", said De La Rosa in an interview published on HRT's official website. "My assessment is very positive because we set ourselves realistic targets, we’ve accomplished them and we’re, […]

The date of the first test, set for Jerez, is based on the fact that - according to the Melbourne organiser - Australia is provisionally scheduled to host the 2013 season opener on March 17 "subject to FOM confirmation". Red Bull to decide driver lineup in August

Red Bull is planning to settle the matter of its 2013 driver lineup "in August", team consultant Dr Helmut Marko has revealed. Without a contract for next season, Monaco and Silverstone winner Mark Webber is now Fernando Alonso's closest challenger for the 2012 title and rumoured to be considering teaming up alongside the Spaniard in 2013. Asked to contemplate sharing the famous Italian team with Webber, Alonso said on Sunday: "I don't know. I think it's just imaginary pictures." The speculation, however, is real, as […]

Italian television reports Vettel to Ferrari in 2014

Reports that Sebastian Vettel is headed to Ferrari are back in the headlines. Italian television Mediaset's Italia1 channel, and the authoritative journalist Giorgio Terruzzi, claim the Red Bull driver will be Fernando Alonso's teammate in 2014. The report echoed the claims of British newspapers, who said recently that an agreement is already in place for 24-year-old German Vettel to drive for Ferrari. The Italian report said Vettel's deal is for three years, until the end of 2016. Terruzzi said that Alonso's teammate in 2013 will […]

Button to attempt return to form with Hamilton's setup

Jenson Button will begin his attempted return to form on Friday by practicing at Valencia with the basis of Lewis Hamilton's car setup. The former world champion's 2012 form slump hit a low recently in Canada, where he was lapped by the sister McLaren. Since then, he told reporters in the Spanish port-side F1 paddock on Thursday, "I've done a hell of a lot of laps in the simulator with this (Hamilton) setup." The Briton, who won the season opener in Melbourne but now has […]

Grosjean denies 'crash-prone' charge

The word 'Grosjean' still ignites emotion in the Sauber garage. Sergio Perez was furious with the Frenchman after a collision in Barcelona, and then Kamui Kobayashi had to retire with suspension damage after the first corner in Monaco. "He deserved a penalty (for Monaco)," team manager Beat Zehnder is quoted by Germany's Auto Motor und Sport. "He drove into two cars. If Schumacher is punished in Barcelona, why not Grosjean (at Monaco)?" Team boss Peter Sauber added: "The guy has both of our drivers on […]

Webber: Canada 'one to get our teeth into'

Monaco Grand Prix winner Mark Webber has said that he is looking forward to next weekend's Canadian Grand Prix. Webber finished third in last year's race in Montreal and expressed his enjoyment surrounding the event “I would say Montreal is one of the top five grands prix of the year because it’s a sensational atmosphere. It’s a really, really good venue and always provides an interesting grand prix there for whatever reason, and last year was no exception. It’s a low downforce track with long […]

Vergne would prefer to have experienced teammate

Jean-Eric Vergne has admitted his F1 debut would be easier if he was sharing the Toro Rosso garage with an experienced driver. Instead, the French rookie made his grand prix debut in Australia alongside Daniel Ricciardo, the young Australian with only a handful of races for struggling HRT under his belt. The Toro Rosso duel this year is one of F1's most interesting, given owner Red Bull's clean sweep of its 2011 lineup, and the expectation that either Vergne, 22, or Ricciardo could succeed Mark […]
