Vergne hoping for improved package

Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Jean Eric Vergne says he is hoping the STR7 can improve sufficiently to allow him to finish in the points in the Belgian Grand Prix.

Vergne told F1Zone.net that he is not satisfied with just a sole points finish, achieved in the rain in Malaysia.

"Scoring points once it’s for sure not so good. I always expect more but it’s gonna be difficult when it’s like this"

When asked about his qualifying deficit to team mate Daniel Ricciardo, Vergne was optimistic about improvements.

"Qualifying is a difficult exercise. We never had time to practice qualifying in winter testing and even in Friday practice or Saturday morning", he said. "So actually the only time you have a few liters and one lap to make the time is only in Qualifying. It’s a bit difficult to practice, especially these tyres are a lot different than what I had last year, but I’m improving. In the last race a did a good one so I’m getting closer and closer to him."

When speaking about the first half of the season, Vergne said "There were some up and downs and I’ve learned masively. We had a good car in the beggining, I was about to score points in Australia, but then it was getting a little bit worst as the other teams were improving the car and we coudn’t really improve it. In terms of pure performance about the car we are not really where we would like to be. That’s why we gonna try to improve the car for the last part of the season. For myself I’m gonna try as well to improve as much as possible and going in the right direction."

When asked about his 2013 plans, Vergne confirmed he hopes to continue the status quo.

"Toro Rosso. I hope next season I’ll become a better driver, with a better car. But now I’m just thinking about the end of this season and then we’ll see for next year"
