Fernando Alonso set the fastest time during a rain affected first practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix.

Alonso's time of 1:55.198 was 0.026s quicker than Paul di Resta.

Adrian Sutil was third, with Sergio Perez and Nico Rosberg rounding out the top five.

The 90 minute session started in wet conditions, with drivers taking to the circuit solely for installation laps.

The circuit began to dry after half an hour, with Red Bull duo Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber among the first drivers to change to slick tyres.

Vettel, who ended the session sixth fastest, also had a half spin at La Source.

Rain returned for the final 15 minutes of the session, thus ending the hopes of several who sought to improve lap times.

Heikki Kovalainen was sixteenth as he returned to Formula 1 for the first time since the Spanish Grand Prix.

Lotus duo Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean rounded out the timesheets as they focused on wet weather running.
