Silverstone activates break clause with Formula 1

British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC), the owners of the Silverstone racing circuit, has announced today that it has formally triggered a break clause in its contract with Formula 1. This means that unless a new contractual arrangement can be reached with Liberty Media, 2019 will be the last year that the British Grand Prix takes place at Silverstone – the only viable venue for a British GP. British GP future thrown into doubt

BRDC chairman John Grant has confirmed in letter to members that the Silverstone circuit will considering terminating its F1 contract from 2020. The news comes as a shock to Motorsport fans around Britain. The 2016 British GP attracted a record attendance over the four day weekend, with 122,000 spectators on Race day. Ferrari, Force India fined for pit speeding

Ferrari and Force India have been fined for pit lane speeding after both Kimi Raikkonen and Sergio Perez were caught breaking the 80km/h limit during the first practice session for the British Grand Prix. Raikkonen was caught travelling at 82.5km/h, with Perez judged to have been doing 83.6km/h. Consequently, Ferrari has been fined €300, with Force India relieved of €400.

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg bounced back from early gearbox woes to post the quickest time during the opening practice session for the British Grand Prix.
