Sebastian Vettel is expecting to get back in the game next time out in Singapore. The reigning world champion is now 39 points behind Ferrari's Fernando Alonso after the Spa-Monza double header, where Red Bull's RB8 struggled on the high speed straights. "Our biggest problem is a lack of speed on the straights," he is quoted by Brazil's O Estado de S.Paulo, after seeing the gap blow out by a factor of 15 points at Monza. "We were always among the slowest. "Fortunately the tracks […]
Christian Horner has confirmed that yet another alternator failure caused Sebastian Vettel to retire from Sunday's Italian grand prix. Having lost his charge for victory in Valencia earlier this year with the same problem, the issue resurfaced at Monza on Saturday when the reigning world champion broke down in practice. It struck again on Sunday; a big blow to the German's championship hopes. "It has to be corrected quickly," team boss Horner told the German broadcaster Sky. After the practice problem, alternator supplier Renault apologised […]
After expecting to struggle during qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix, there were mixed emotions down at Red Bull. Sebastian Vettel will start fifth but Mark Webber failed to make Q3. "I’m pretty happy with the result; my last lap should have been a bit quicker, but whether it would have made a difference or not is hard to say", said Vettel. "If you look from us to the front, the gaps are too big. All weekend we were not quick enough, so P6 is […]
For the second time in three races, Mark Webber will drop five places from his qualifying position courtesy of a penalty for a gearbox change. Webber was given the same penalty prior to the German Grand Prix, meaning that the gearbox has only lasted for two events. "The above driver [Webber] did finish the last race in Budapest and this gearbox change was before the five consecutive events expired" read a statement late on Friday.
Red Bull's Dr Helmut Marko is sure reigning back to back world champion Sebastian Vettel is still in the hunt for the 2012 title. No longer with the season's dominant package, the 25-year-old German is 42 points behind championship leader Fernando Alonso, and he even trails his own teammate Mark Webber by a couple of points. "The title is still entirely feasible for us," Austrian Marko, who is team boss Dietrich Mateschitz's right-hand man on motor racing matters, told Bild newspaper. "But Vettel needs to […]
Sebastian Vettel has said he is looking forward to racing again this weekend at the Belgian Grand Prix. The reigning world champion won in Spa last season, although he currently sits forty-two points behind Fernando Alonso in the championship. "The Spa circuit is defined by the surrounding nature and it’s one of my favourite tracks. I was very happy to have won there last year", he said. "Spa offers every type of racing corner; ultra-fast, medium-fast and slow chicanes, that alternate with fast straights. The […]
Sebastien Buemi is confident he can return to the Formula One grid in 2013. After being dropped by Red Bull's driver development team Toro Rosso, the 23-year-old Swiss was signed for 2012 by the energy drink's premier championship winning team as its official reserve. "It's good," Buemi told the German language Swiss newspaper 20 Minuten. "Red Bull is the number one team in Formula One and I have a foot in the door. This is important if I want to return to the grid next […]
Red Bull, the owner of two Formula One teams, is poised to take over the running of the FIA's World Rally Championship (WRC). The premier rallying series was thrown into turmoil early this year when the governing body terminated its contract with WRC promoter North One Sport. Convers Sports Initiatives, a conglomerate headed by Russian businessman Vladimir Antonov, stepped in, but the Times newspaper says that company subsequently collapsed, with Antonov suspected of fraud. Journalist Kevin Eason said the FIA has struggled to find a […]
Daniel Ricciardo did not interpret Red Bull's decision to keep Mark Webber in 2013 as a door slammed in his face. Now the cream of the energy drink company's driver development programme, Australian Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne were signed to Toro Rosso this year and regarded as candidates to graduate to the main team in 2013. But on much improved form in the first half of this year, Ricciardo's countryman Webber has secured a new contract for next season. The 23-year-old insists he is not […]
World champion Sebastian Vettel insists he and Red Bull will keep their eyes on the ball in 2012, despite the rocky road of the opening half of the season. The 25-year-old German began the season bidding to join very illustrious company, with Juan Manuel Fangio and Michael Schumacher the only other drivers in modern F1 history to have won three drivers' titles on the trot. But with half of this year's grands prix now in the past, Vettel is 42 points adrift in the 2012 […]
Both Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber admitted that strategic choices hampered their chances in a Hungarian Grand prix in which the champion finished fourth and his team-mate came home eighth. Starting third, Vettel made an attempt to go round the outside of second-placed Romain Grosjean at the start but, forced wide, he allowed Jenson Button to sneak through on the inside and dropped to fourth. Vettel then spent the first two stints bottled up behind the McLaren and only managed to get free when the […]
After the controversy which ensued during last weekend’s German Grand Prix regarding the engine mapping of the two Red Bull RB8s, further rumors have begun to gather momentum that the Milton Keynes-based outfit could be controlling the ride height of their cars. This discovery comes just before the start of qualifying at Budapest. This particular feature, which is believed to have been first spotted on the car at Montreal, was reportedly queried by the FIA at the time. If these rumors are found to be […]
