Raikkonen: We will be regular visitors to the podium this season

Four races into his F1 comeback he stood on the second place on the podium, but the Iceman was not completely happy. After all, the race win was so nearly in his grasp. Will Barcelona give him the opportunity to add to his win tally? It took you four races into your comeback before you achieved a podium – were you surprised at this? I never had any doubts in myself and it is clear we have a good car so in some ways the […]

Force India, Ecclestone, deny Bahrain GP boycott

Force India deputy boss Bob Fernley has dismissed reports the Silverstone based team could pull out of the controversial Bahrain grand prix. Two members of the team were allowed to return to Europe this week following a Molotov cocktail attack en route from the Sakhir circuit to the hotel. There were high-level meetings involving Force India on Thursday, sparking speculation the entire team could follow its frightened members back to the UK. But Fernley, admitting that security has been ramped up after the incident, is […]

Raikkonen: A podium should be possible in Bahrain

After a weekend which came agonisingly close to producing a real result for Kimi in China, the Finn puts the past behind him and looks ahead to his next opportunity for glory at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Chinese Grand Prix was full of action; how was it from your position? It was good racing but we ran out of tyre performance during the final stint. I felt comfortable in the car and I could push well, but we lost out in the end. I […]

Sauber: Pecking order could change again in Europe

With the pecking order still not entirely clear after two races, it could be set to change all over again in the near future. That is the view of Peter Sauber, the Hinwil based team's owner and boss who witnessed his Mexican driver Sergio Perez display almost race-winning form at Sepang recently with the impressive new C31 car. He argues that the real key to 2012 is ongoing car development. "The decisive factor of course is how quickly can the teams develop their cars," he […]

Teams prepared for last minute Bahrain cancellation

Teams are making preparations just in case the Bahrain grand prix is called off at the last minute. That is the claim of Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, reporting that the teams could put their back-up plans into action even as late as the Sunday in China -- mere days before they are expected to be at Sakhir. In London this week, F1 chief executive and team bosses stood side by side with Bahrain circuit officials, insisting the race will go ahead despite defiant speculation […]

F1 agrees new Concorde with 'majority' of teams

"The majority" of F1's teams have agreed a deal over a new Concorde Agreement. The news was announced by the sport's chief executive Bernie Ecclestone, who remains in Europe, in time for Saturday's final practice session in Malaysia. Previously, it was reported Red Bull and Ferrari were set to agree separate new deals for F1's future beyond the current commercial contract in 2013 and beyond. But Ecclestone said on Saturday F1 has in fact "reached commercial agreements with the majority of the current Formula One […]

More Britons watched BBC's delayed coverage

The BBC's delayed and edited highlights of Sunday's Australian grand prix attracted more viewers than the British broadcaster's live coverage of the same Melbourne race a year ago. From 2012, F1's television coverage for Britain is being shared between pay-channel Sky - who have the full-time live rights - and the public broadcaster BBC. Last year, the BBC's live coverage of the 2011 season opener averaged 2.13 million viewers. But the delayed highlights package for 2012, aired hours after the race finished between 2 and […]

Ecclestone offers to end Melbourne contract

Bernie Ecclestone has expressed frustration with the attitude of Australia's Formula One race organisers. The F1 chief executive is pushing for the Melbourne race, with a contract through 2015, to be held at night for a more favourable live timeslot back in Europe. He may even be offering a fee subsidy, but Formula One remains controversial within the Victorian state parliament, with taxpayers footing $50 million bills annually. Ecclestone has reacted by offering to sit down and negotiate an early end to the Albert Park […]

Raikkonen: NASCAR schedule prevented full-time switch

Kimi Raikkonen has revealed that despite being offered a multi-million dollar deal last year to make a full-time switch to NASCAR racing, he turned it down due to the intensity of a full NASCAR schedule and his reluctance to move to the US to pursue it. Raikkonen drove two races in NASCAR's national series last year, where his first race was in NASCAR’s third-tier Camping World Truck Series in a car prepared by Kyle Busch Motorsports. After one Truck race, Raikkonen stepped up a level […]
