Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo set the quickest time during a damp final practice session in China. Felipe Massa was second for Williams, ahead of Lotus's Romain Grosjean. Nico Hulkenberg finished in fourth for Force India, with Kimi Raikkonen in fifth and Pastor Maldonado sixth. The Lotus driver however had to stop on track after a technical problem with his E22. Several drivers, including both Mercedes racers, opted not to set a lap time.

Kimi Raikkonen was left to lament a difficult day after technical issues restricted his running in the Ferrari F14T. Raikkonen completed just an installation lap during the first practice session but returned to the circuit in the second session and set the seventh fastest time. "It was a difficult day, that began with a technical problem in the morning session, which meant I only did an installation lap," he said. "Once that was sorted out, in the afternoon, we tried to make up for lost […]

Felipe Massa says that upgrades Williams has brought to the Chinese Grand Prix have improved the feeling of the FW36. Massa was seventh quickest in the second session in China and reckons that the car has been improved. "All of the upgrades we brought here have improved performance which is really positive," he said. "Having new parts that we will use is good news as we have made some good steps forward. The balance and feeling of the car is better, however we know that […]

Pastor Maldonado has accepted the blame after crashing out of the second practice session at the Chinese Grand Prix. It was not a good Friday for the Venezuelan as he suffered several off-track excursions before his error upon entering the pit lane. Maldonado slid wide entering the pit lane and crashed into the barriers. "The incident this afternoon was a mistake from my side; I was a little optimistic on the entry to the pits, and the run off is quite short, but that's how it is," he […]

Ferrari team principal Marco Mattiacci says his squad will not be giving up on their 2014 season. Mattiacci was appointed earlier in the week following the resignation of Stefano Domenicali and says the team is aiming to close the gap to Ferrari. "I don't think we are going to give up," he said. "Our goal is to close the gap as much as we can with the leaders and at the moment that is Mercedes. There are many variables that can influence a lap that […]

There were mixed emotions at McLaren following practice for the Chinese Grand Prix at Shanghai. Jenson Button was sixth quickest in the second session and believes the team has made improvements to the MP4-29. "In terms of driveability, I think we’ve improved the car in a number of areas since Bahrain," he said. "There are a few more things we can do overnight, and there are some positive steps we can take to move a little closer to the front. After all, two weeks ago, […]

Adrian Sutil has admitted that Sauber faces an uphill challenge ahead of this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix. Sauber has yet to score a point in 2014 and Sutil is not expecting their fortunes to change drastically in China. "The driveability of the car is still not easy," he said. "I am struggling with the tyres to get them to work. There is still a lot of work ahead of us. "In comparison to Bahrain, I think we had more straight line top speed, which brings […]

Renault has made progress with their power unit ahead of this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix, according to head of track operations Remi Taffin. Renault has been on the back foot for much of the season but Taffin believes that their four customer teams have received an improvement in grip and traction, especially at low speed. "The cold temperature has made things a bit more interesting," said Taffin. "Even though lower temps do not change engine settings and fuel consumption this year, unlike with the V8s, […]

Lewis Hamilton says he is unhappy with the balance of his Mercedes W05 despite setting the fastest time during the second practice session in China. Hamilton bounced back from a difficult first session - in which he suffered a suspension issue - but complained that his car was not operating to his liking. "It was quite a difficult day today as we missed some of this morning's session which put us on the back foot slightly, but we were glad to get some laps in […]

Marcus Ericsson says that he is sure there is a 'considerable' amount of time still to come from Caterham at this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix. Ericsson was the slowest of the 22 runners in China but believes the team can make gains with their CT05. "The car was oversteering too much, especially in the high speed corners, so we introduced a bit more understeer to help counteract that and it worked well on run two which we used to do some aero evaluation," he said. […]

Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time during the second practice session ahead of this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix. Hamilton, who suffered suspension issues earlier in the day, complained of understeer in his Mercedes W05 but nonetheless lapped the Shanghai International Circuit quicker than his rivals. Hamilton's best lap of 1:38.315 was 0.141s faster than Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, while Nico Rosberg was four tenths down in third place, after the German had to back off due to yellow flags on his hot lap. Daniel Ricciardo and […]
