Hamilton still fastest in Montreal

Lewis Hamilton continued his fine form in Montreal by topping the afternoon practice session at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Hamilton set his time of 1:15.259 around the halfway point of the ninety minute session and his time was never bettered. Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa completed the top three as Ferrari continue their improvement after a dismal start to the season. Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel was fourth, ahead of Paul di Resta and Kamui Kobayashi. The red flags came out after Bruno Senna crashed […]

Police arrest protesters at Ecclestone event

Protesters attempted to disrupt an event attended by Bernie Ecclestone on Thursday. The F1 chief executive - as well as other F1 dignitaries including 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve - was at a cocktail gala for this weekend's Formula One race in Montreal when riot police moved in on a group of masked protesters. About 20 were arrested, the Canadian Press reported. Asked what message he had for protesting university students, former Williams and Sauber driver Villeneuve answered: "Go back to school. "It's time for […]

McLaren's Street Struggle

Fifth place for Lewis Hamilton and a DNF for Jenson Button saw McLaren slip further behind Red Bull Racing at the top of the Constructors’ Championship. Red Bull Racing now lead McLaren by 38 points, having added 37 in Monaco with victory for Mark Webber and a fighting fourth place for Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton trailed Vettel home in fifth, and Button, after a torrid afternoon, retired in the closing stages. Hamilton did not get off the line well but managed to retain his third position […]

Button fastest at moist Monaco

Jenson Button set the fastest time in second practice ahead of this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. The 2009 world champion set his time of 1.15.746 on option tyres early on in the session. A brief shower after fifteen minutes left the circuit damp, although a couple of drivers ventured out on dry tyres. The rain intensified and the drivers were forced to switch to the Intermediate tyres. On an unusually error free practice day around the streets of Monte Carlo, most of the action came […]

Brawn back to normal after heart checks

Ross Brawn revealed on Wednesday he missed the recent Spanish grand prix to have checks on his heart. After handing over to his Mercedes deputy Nick Fry in Barcelona, fellow Briton Brawn is back in action as the team boss in Monte Carlo. Rumours hinted there was more to the story, but Brawn insisted to a German newspaper earlier on Wednesday that he was simply advised by doctors to take the weekend off after a night in hospital for checks. He then told reporters in […]

Senna to race 'Barcelona fire car' at Monaco

The F1 car photographed amid the charred remains of Williams' burnt-out garage in Barcelona will be back in action this weekend at Monaco. We reported last week that an initial inspection of Bruno Senna's Renault-powered FW34, which was sitting in the pits when the fire broke out during the team's celebrations for Pastor Maldonado's victory last Sunday, showed it had emerged with minimal damage. A spokesman has now confirmed that Senna will race the very same chassis on the streets of Monaco this week. Otherwise, […]

Hamilton stripped of Barcelona pole

Lewis Hamilton has been stripped of pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix. Hamilton, 27, set the fastest time in qualifying but failed to return to the pits. After undertaking a similar action after taking pole for the 2010 Canadian Grand Prix, his McLaren team was fined $10,000 and the rules changed. Article 6.6.2 of the regulations state that 'Competitors must ensure that a one litre sample of fuel may be taken from the car at any time during the Event. Except in cases of […]

Alonso tops FP1 timesheet in Spain

Fernando Alonso set the early pace in Barcelona this morning, the local favourite topping the FP1 timesheet with a time of 1:24.430, just under four tenths of a second clear of Sebastian Vettel and almost five ahead of third-placed Kamui Kobayashi. Kobayashi headed the timesheet for a long spell at the beginning of the session but was eventually eclipsed by Vettel. The German’s time at the top wasn’t long, however, and 20 minutes before the end of the session Alonso jumped to the head of […]

Vettel: Schumacher's criticism of Pirelli exaggerated

Sebastian Vettel has hit back at what he thinks was an "exaggerated" reaction to Michael Schumacher after the recent Bahrain grand prix. Schumacher, Vettel's countryman and friend, had heavily criticised the sport's official supplier Pirelli, despite the Italian marque's 2012 tyres being widely credited for the exciting grands prix seen so far this year. "It's been a bit exaggerated," world champion Vettel, referring to the reaction to Schumacher's comments, is quoted by Sport Bild. "Ultimately, we all have the same tyres, but of course as […]

Three wins in a week for Valsecchi

GP2 Championship leader Davide Valsecchi took another victory in the standalone Feature race in Bahrain. Valsecchi started from second on the grid but soon overhauled pole sitter Giedo van der Garde when the Caterham driver began to suffer from used tyres. Van der Garde initially extended his advantage to 1.8 seconds but Valsecchi eventually reeled in his rival and overtook him with an easy pass on the pit straight. Fabio Leimer also passed the Dutch driver, but Van der Garde held on for the final […]

Red Bull doubts dominance will resume

Red Bull has poured cold water on expectations the reigning back to back world champions could be set to resume their reign over Formula 1. After a victory drought spanning the opening three races of the 2012 season, Red Bull broke through with Sebastian Vettel's familiar win-from-pole triumph in Bahrain last weekend. It means he has leapt to the top of the drivers' standings, while the Milton Keynes based team is now 9 points clear of its nearest rival, McLaren. "King Sebastian is back!" exclaimed […]
