Hamilton, Dennis, move to patch up broken relationship

Lewis Hamilton and former mentor Ron Dennis have moved to patch up their broken relationship. After McLaren and team 'supremo' Dennis built Hamilton's Formula One career from boyhood, it emerged that relationship crumbled spectacularly last year as the 2008 world champion decided to switch to Mercedes. Dennis, however, said early this week that the British driver will always be "part of the McLaren family". "Last year I didn't seriously seek to prevent his efforts to explore new pastures with Mercedes -- perhaps it was a […]

Alonso: Beating Vettel, not wins, is the target

Fernando Alonso says that winning the next two races is not a realistic target - but believes he can beat reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel. Alonso heads into Ferrari's home race in Italy having not won a race since his own home event back in Spain in May. "I don’t think two wins is something that we can put up like a target, y’know? We’ve won two Grand Prix until now in the championship so we will be a little bit too optimistic if we […]

Lotus owner committed to F1 for now

At least for now, team owner Gerard Lopez insists he is committed to Formula One. In the past weeks, he has consistently played down the importance of the confirmed news that Lotus, the Enstone based team formerly known as Renault and Benetton, has debts of EUR 120 million. Lopez said that the actual number is not significant to Genii, the investment firm he leads. So, asked if he is sticking with F1 and with the name Lotus, Lopez answered: "I think so. "I have already […]

Title charge won't hurt Red Bull for 2014 says Marko

Red Bull can win this year's championship and also be ready for the enormous challenge of the radical 2014 rules. That is the claim of Dr Helmut Marko, as this year's title-charging teams grapple with the even-more-delicate-than-usual task of balancing two parallel development tasks. "With these huge technological changes, it is a difficult situation for a team like us," Marko said on Austrian television Servus TV. Indeed, while some big teams like McLaren are basically now fully immersed in the 2014 programme, abandoning this year's […]

Raikkonen hoping for victory fight in Italy

Kimi Raikkonen says he is hopeful that Lotus can compete for the win at next weekend's Italian Grand Prix. Raikkonen has never won at Monza, while a Renault powered car has won at the circuit just once since 1996. Nonetheless the Finn is optimistic that he can get among the front runners. "Monza always gives a great challenge," said Raikkonen. "It’s so different compared with the more modern circuits as the layout means the car needs to be set up differently. To go fast at […]

Schumacher thinks Vettel could win seven titles

Michael Schumacher thinks it is possible his record haul of seven world titles can be matched by fellow German Sebastian Vettel. Earlier this week, the Spanish sports daily Marca quoted Vettel as saying comparisons between himself and his former mentor Schumacher are "ridiculous". "I have three titles, which is nothing compared to seven," he said. "Beating his record is not something that can happen in the next couple of years, so I don't even think about it," the Red Bull driver added. "I have had […]

British pair share GP2 wins

British drivers shared the success across the GP2 races at Spa-Francorchamps. Sam Bird claimed his fourth win of the year for Russian Time during the feature race while James Calado ended his win drought by controlling the sprint race. Bird utterly dominated the feature race from pole position, finishing seven seconds clear of Marcus Ericsson. Alexander Rossi hounded Ericsson for second place but ultimately settled for the third step of the podium, his second rostrum finish of 2013. Fabio Leimer was fourth, with Tom Dillmann […]

Alonso: I’d give myself a 10, motivation 10, determination 10

Fernando Alonso has dismissed rumours suggesting he will leave Ferrari and insists he is highly motivated ahead of the second half of 2013. Alonso is currently 39 points behind championship leader Sebastian Vettel. "After many years in Formula 1 I have never had a great Sunday here [at Spa] and I would like to finally get a good result," he said. "I think our expectations can be good ones as this circuit requires different levels of aero downforce and a very specific set-up and our […]

Hamilton not raising expectations despite Hungary win

Lewis Hamilton says he is not focusing too much on the title, despite winning the Hungarian Grand Prix. Hamilton is currently 52 points behind championship leader Sebastian Vettel. "I come here, it’s the same old every year," he said. "One race win and people get excited, one bad race and negative things [are written]. "I’m just there to do my job and continue what I’ve been doing. I come here today feeling more motivated than ever. It’s great knowing we have a car we can […]

Maldonado happy to stay with Williams for 2014

Pastor Maldonado has rejected rumours that he will change teams for 2014. Maldonado has driven for Williams since his Formula 1 debut in 2011 and insist he is happy with his current team. “I had a phone call from my friend of many years and he was calling me on the beach saying ‘Oh I read you are going to Ferrari, you are going to Lotus, you are going to many teams’” he said. “I am fully focused on this season and there is no […]
