Opinion: How Red Bull can gain an early 2014 advantage

As the Sebastian Vettel/Red Bull juggernaut marches on towards a fourth successive title, much of the attention now switches to 2014. The sport will enter a new era consisting of modified regulations, the most significant being the 1.6 litre V6 power units. Teams will be eager to stretch out the miniscule of advantages over their rivals as if you get it right early on, it will make 2014, 2015 and even 2016 far more simpler to manage. Red Bull got it right at the start […]

Hamilton sympathetic to fans amid Vettel dominance

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton says he feels sorry for fans amid a period of dominance by Sebastian Vettel. Vettel has won the previous four races and could clinch his fourth successive title at this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix. Hamilton compared Vettel's dominance to that of Michael Schumacher. The German won five successive titles between 2000 and 2004 and only once was the title decided at the final round of the season. "He has won already unless he doesn't finish the rest of the races, and […]

Raikkonen edges out Grosjean at Lotus

Kimi Raikkonen says that he is unsure whether a better grid slot at the Korean Grand Prix would have given him a chance of beating Sebastian Vettel. Raikkonen started from ninth place but finished the race in second, behind championship leader Vettel. "Second place is okay and a good result for the team, but we’re here to win and having to fight your way to the front from a bad starting position is not ideal," he said. "Qualifying was pretty awful for me, but it’s […]

Vettel stays clear of Mokpo madness: Korean GP review

Sebastian Vettel controls the Korean Grand Prix to record his eighth win of the season, ahead of the Lotus drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean in a race featuring close battles and bizarre moments. To borrow a much maligned football analogy, it would be fair to say that the Korean Grand Prix was a race of two halves. Sebastian Vettel pulled out a gap and was in control of proceedings during the first half. But while that was also the case in the second half, […]

Vettel using 'secret' exhaust-blown solution

Sebastian Vettel's dominance is being powered by a clever post-'exhaust blowing' solution, a specialist Italian magazine claims. After the reigning world champion extended his 2013 points lead with a dominant performance in Singapore, former F1 team boss Giancarlo Minardi raised doubts about the legality of Vettel's Red Bull. Minardi, watching trackside at Marina Bay, said Vettel's car displayed worryingly good handling, while his Renault engine "sounded similar to past seasons when traction control went into action". Indeed, Autosprint has now revealed an exclusive video that […]

Magnussen on brink of title after dominant performance

Kevin Magnussen dominated the penultimate round of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series at Paul Ricard in France to stand on the brink of the title. Magnussen, part of McLaren's young driver scheme, secured both pole positions and stormed to victories in the two races. But a technical infringement on his DAMS car meant that he was excluded from the results. DAMS intends to appeal the disqualification. Magnussen's misfortune handed victory to Red Bull youngster Antonio Felix da Costa, for his third win of the season. […]

Vettel crushes opposition to dominate in Singapore

Sebastian Vettel crushed his rivals to complete a hat-trick of Singapore Grand Prix wins. Vettel beat Fernando Alonso by 32 seconds to record the 33rd win of his Formula 1 career. Lotus's Kimi Raikkonen started the race from thirteenth place but came through to complete the podium. Vettel's only opposition came at the start, when front row starter Nico Rosberg got ahead of him into the first corner. But Rosberg ran too deep, allowing Vettel to usurp his compatriot and head into a lead which […]

Leimer, Bird set up Abu Dhabi showdown

Fabio Leimer and Sam Bird will head to November's GP2 final event in Abu Dhabi separated by just seven points in the championship. Leimer finished in fifth place in the feature race and followed it up with third place in the sprint race. Bird dropped down the order in the feature race, but battled back to secure eighth place and the reversed grid pole. From there, he controlled proceedings and was never troubled as he collected his fifth win of the season. The results mean […]

Lotus owner Lopez slams Raikkonen after salary comments

Lotus team owner Gerard Lopez has slammed Kimi Raikkonen, after the Finn revealed he is only leaving for Ferrari in 2014 because he has not been paid. Raikkonen had shocked reporters with his brutal honesty about his unpaid salary on Thursday, but Lopez told the German newspaper Welt that is not the full story. "He will get his money, as in previous years and as agreed, at the end of the season," Lopez said. "I am very confused about the timing and content of these […]

Team principals hits out at spiralling Formula 1 costs

Senior figures inside Formula 1 have hit out at the spiralling costs of Formula 1, ahead of this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix. Caterham owner Tony Fernandes says that self-interest means Formula 1 teams have missed an opportunity to cut costs in the sport. Fernandes entered the sport in 2010 on the promise of a budget cap, which was ultimately abandoned. "I’ve been consistent since day one I’ve been in Formula One that costs are too high and every… when I came into Formula One, people […]

Hamilton says Ferrari will have best 2014 driver line-up

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton believes that championship rivals Ferrari will boast the best driver line-up in 2014. Ferrari has signed Kimi Raikkonen to race alongside Fernando Alonso, in place of current driver Felipe Massa. Hamilton believes that the replacement of Massa, the man he fought for the 2008 title, with Raikkonen means that Ferrari has the strongest driver line-up. "This year we can beat them in the constructors' [title] but at the end of the day it is going to be a stronger team. Kimi […]

Sutil expecting improved Force India in Singapore

Adrian Sutil is expecting Force India to put in an improved performance at this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix. Force India has scored just two points across the last four races, courtesy of ninth place for Sutil in Belgium. "Since the new tyres came in it was clearly a step down for us," Sutil said. "We used to be able to do one less stop in the race which was a big advantage compared to others and also the general balance of the car was much […]
