Massa confident of Williams contract extension

Felipe Massa is confident that he will extend his stay with Williams into a third year in 2016. Massa spent the majority of his Formula 1 career at Ferrari before switching to Williams at the start of 2014. Massa's arrival coincided with Williams' revival towards the front of the grid and the Brazilian driver has claimed four podiums and a pole position during his time with the team. "Nothing’s changed at the moment, I don’t see why I should not be there," Massa explained ahead […]

Massa: Williams must examine wet pace

Felipe Massa says Williams must understand why it struggles for pace in wet weather, following its showing at the British Grand Prix. Massa led team-mate Valtteri Bottas during the dry opening stages of the race at Silverstone but, having slipped behind Lewis Hamilton following the pit stop phase, both drivers were left helpless to defend against Nico Rosberg when wet weather struck the circuit. Massa dropped behind Sebastian Vettel and finished fourth, 36 seconds behind Hamilton, while Bottas narrowly fended off Daniil Kvyat for fifth. […]

Bottas disappointed by call not to race Massa

Valtteri Bottas says he was disappointed not to be allowed to race team-mate Felipe Massa during the early stages of the British Grand Prix. Massa took the lead at the start while Bottas moved into second place at the expense of Lewis Hamilton when the Briton unsuccessfully tried to pass Massa at the restart. Bottas subsequently trailed Massa by half a second per lap but was informed by Williams not to overtake his team-mate, despite believing that he held a pace advantage. Williams eventually gave […]

Massa pleased after Williams beats Ferrari

Felipe Massa says it was encouraging for Williams to prove its pace during qualifying for the British Grand Prix as both he and team-mate Valtteri Bottas outqualified their Ferrari rivals. Massa was third, with Bottas in fourth, ahead of both Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel. "I think it was a fantastic day for us, it’s amazing to see how many people here and it’s our home Grand Prix for the team," he said. So [it's] great for me and Valtteri [in] third and fourth, we […]

Bottas sure of top five challenge

Valtteri Bottas is confident that Williams will be able to qualify within the top five places, despite a comparatively low key performance during practice for the British Grand Prix. Bottas was only 12th quickest during the second practice session at Silverstone, having given up his seat in the first session to test driver Susie Wolff. "Obviously missing the first practice it always takes a bit of time in practice two, so it felt like practice one for me getting used to the conditions but it […]

Smedley pleased with Williams mettle

Williams' Rob Smedley says he was pleased with the 'mettle' displayed by the squad during last weekend's Austrian Grand Prix. Felipe Massa capitalised on a mistake in the pits from Ferrari to jump ahead of Sebastian Vettel and secure his first podium of 2015, and Williams' second in succession. "It would be futile of me to say we didn’t get that podium via some good fortune as well but as people said in the past you make your own luck and we got ourselves into […]

Williams will keep pushing Ferrari - Massa

Felipe Massa says Williams will keep up the fight with Ferrari for second in the Constructors' championship until the end of the season as he took his first podium of the year in Austria. Massa profited from a slow stop for Sebastian Vettel to move into third position and resisted the threat from the Ferrari driver across the final few laps. With Valtteri Bottas in fifth and Kimi Raikkonen crashing out on the opening lap, Williams gained 25 points to Ferrari's 12 to close the […]

Williams encouraged by long run pace

Williams drivers Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa say they have been encouraged by the long run pace of the FW37 during practice for this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix. Williams had several new upgrades to its car during Friday practice and the squad focused on long runs, with Bottas and Massa not troubling the overall top 10 times across the course of the second session. "Our main aim today was to put the new parts we have through their paces and they all seem to be […]

Bottas: Podium acts as motivation

Williams driver Valtteri Bottas says his podium at the Canadian Grand Prix acts as motivation as the squad bids to replicate its 2014 showing at this weekend's round in Austria. Bottas claimed third in Canada and is optimistic that Williams can again perform strongly at the Red Bull Ring, having locked out the front row of the grid in 2014 before going on to take third and fourth in the race, as Bottas secured his maiden Formula 1 podium. "We had a strong weekend here […]

Wolff to get Williams outing in Austria

Williams has confirmed that Susie Wolff will participate in next week's post-race test for the squad at the Red Bull Ring. Wolff, Williams' test driver, sampled the FW37 during pre-season testing in Spain and again at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in last month's first practice session. Wolff will drive the car on Tuesday, before handing over duties to Valtteri Bottas on Wednesday.

Williams eyes Austria Ferrari challenge

Williams is confident that it can build on its performance at the Canadian Grand Prix by closing the gap to rivals Ferrari at this weekend's race in Austria. Williams has been comfortably the third best squad across the opening part of 2015 but secured its first podium of the campaign in Canada courtesy of third place for Valtteri Bottas. That result comes ahead of this weekend's race in Austria, where last year Williams locked out the front row of the grid before challenging Mercedes in […]

Williams co-founder Head receives knighthood

Williams co-founder Patrick Head has received a knighthood for his services to motorsport. Head and Sir Frank Williams joined forces in the 1970s to build up the team and held the positions of technical director and director of engineering until his retirement at the end of 2011. "My name may be above the door, but I have always stressed that the creation and subsequent success of Williams was very much a team effort," said Sir Frank Williams. "My co-founder Patrick Head was the design genius […]
