Mercedes duo perplexed by tyre difficulties

Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg were left puzzled at the the W04's use of tyres following qualifying for the United States Grand Prix. Hamilton, who has never been defeated in the USA, qualified in fifth place, while Rosberg was knocked out in Q2. It represented Mercedes's worst qualifying result of the year. Dario Franchitti forced to retire from racing

Four time IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti has been forced to retire due to the injuries he sustained in Houston last month. Franchitti was launched into the fence on the final lap and sustained spinal injuries, concussion and ankle fractures. The Scot won the IndyCar title in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011. Lotus confirms Kovalainen for remainder of 2013 season

Lotus has confirmed that Heikki Kovalainen will replace Kimi Raikkonen for the rest of the 2013 season. Raikkonen will skip the final two rounds of the year after electing to undergo surgery on his injured back and compatriot Kovalainen will take over in America and Brazil. Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim says there is a strong chance that Formula 1 will return to Mexico in the near future. Mexico has not hosted a Formula 1 race since 1992, when Nigel Mansell won for Williams at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City. Fernando Alonso has admitted that qualifying eighth for the Brazilian Grand Prix is no surprise. The Spaniard scraped into Q3 and was then a few tenths slower than Felipe Massa in the final shootout.
