Vandoorne hopeful of avoiding Magnussen path

McLaren test and reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne is confident that he can avoid the path taken by former colleague Kevin Magnussen, who left the team in 2015. Magnussen raced for McLaren in 2014 and occupied a reserve role in 2015, but did not drive for the outfit after an aborted Australian Grand Prix effort while filling in for the injured Fernando Alonso. McLaren's decision to retain Alonso and Jenson Button for 2016, along with the rise of eventual GP2 champion Vandoorne, left Magnussen out in […]

GP2 champion Stoffel Vandoorne has confirmed that he will act as McLaren's test and reserve driver for the 2016 season, replacing the outgoing Kevin Magnussen. Vandoorne not assured of 2016 F1 seat

Runaway GP2 championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne says there is no guarantee he will be on the Formula 1 grid in 2016, even if he clinches the junior series crown. Vandoorne has dominated the first half of this year's GP2 Series and has a 65 point lead over nearest rival Alexander Rossi. Vandoorne is part of McLaren's young driver scheme and sampled the MP4-30 at the post-race test in Austria last month. "It's always been a very competitive sport, everybody knows that," he commented. "There have […]
