Vettel: Mechanical problems 'part of life'

A philosophical Sebastian Vettel says that mechanical issues are part of racing after he completed just five timed laps during Friday's second practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix. Hamilton fastest in second Singapore session

Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time during the second practice session under the lights in Singapore. Hamilton’s time of 1:47.490 was 0.133s clear of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso as the drivers completed their runs on the Super Soft tyre around the streets of Marina Bay. Hamilton’s Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg was only 13th after having to abandon his flying lap when the session was halted due to a crash for Pastor Maldonado. Alonso on top in first Singapore session

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso set the fastest time during the first practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix. Alonso's time of 1:49.056 was 0.122s faster than Mercedes's Lewis Hamilton, with Nico Rosberg in third position. The session began in twilight and several drivers enjoyed spells at the top of the times as the light faded around the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Caterham has confirmed that Kamui Kobayashi will continue to race for the team at this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix.
