Lewis looms large: Singapore GP review

Was this the weekend in which the balance tipped in favour of Lewis Hamilton? It was far from a classic Singapore Grand Prix but in the context of a closely contested world championship it was a tense affair and one in which Hamilton prevailed. Unlike Monza, there was no mano-a-mano scrap between the two Mercedes cars as the #6 piloted by Nico Rosberg developed a serious issue before he even left his garage. Rosberg returned to the garage before coming out onto the grid, where […]

Wiring loom failure caused Rosberg's retirement

Mercedes has confirmed that a steering wheel wiring loom failure was the cause of Nico Rosberg's retirement from the Singapore Grand Prix. Rosberg was set to start from the front row of the grid but the problem manifested itself as Rosberg left the Mercedes garage prior to the start of the race. Mercedes mechanics tried to repair the problem, but the German had to start from the pit lane after he was unable to control the clutch or the gears. The problems remained and Rosberg […]

'Impossible' to achieve good results, says Gutierrez

A frustrated Esteban Gutierrez says it is 'almost impossible' for Sauber to achieve good results as the team endured another dismal day in the Singapore Grand Prix. Gutierrez ran strongly early on but had to retire due to an electrical problem, while a water leak led to team-mate Adrian Sutil failing to last the distance. "There is not much to say about the race," said Gutierrez. "At the moment it is almost impossible to achieve good results. We have to extract 120 percent from what […]

Alonso rues Safety Car timing

Fernando Alonso was left to rue the timing of the Safety Car period during the Singapore Grand Prix. Alonso was running in second place on Option tyres when the race was neutralised following a collision between Sergio Perez and Adrian Sutil. Alonso stopped for fresh Prime tyres and dropped to fourth place and was consequently unable to pass either Red Bull driver and finished just behind Daniel Ricciardo. "A little bit unlucky with the Safety Car, when it happened we found ourselves with the Options […]

Button pins Q2 exit on lock-up

McLaren driver Jenson Button copped the blame for being knocked out of qualifying during the second segment, although reckons his mistake did not cost him too many positions. Button locked up on his flying lap in Q2 and ended the session in 11th position, but with team-mate Kevin Magnussen ending in ninth place, the Brit did not feel much more progress was possible. "Not making the cut into Q3 is disappointing, especially considering the strong progress we’d made during Q1," he said. "On my final, […]

Ricciardo aiming to challenge Mercedes duo

Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo says he plans to take the fight to Mercedes pair Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in the Singapore Grand Prix. Ricciardo was third fastest in qualifying, two-tenths of a second behind pole sitter Hamilton.
