Gutierrez targeting reserve role with top team

Esteban Gutierrez says that he is very likely to remain in Formula 1 next season as he eyes a reserve role with a top team. Gutierrez has raced for Sauber since the start of 2013 but will not be retained as the team is to run with an all-new line up of Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr. But the Mexican is sure that he will be remaining in the top echelon of the sport, even if it is in a reserve capacity. "I heard there […]

Sauber again miss out on points

Sauber once again missed out on their first points of the season in the Brazilian Grand Prix, leading to the possibility that the squad will finish without a solitary point for the first time in their Formula 1 history. Esteban Gutierrez ran inside the top 10 during the first stint of the race but slipped back after being beset by tyre wear, while team-mate Adrian Sutil was thwarted by a cooling problem, which meant he had to start the race from the pit lane. "We […]

Sutil wants talks after Nasr-Ericsson line-up confirmed

Adrian Sutil says he wants to talk with Sauber after the Swiss team confirmed that he would not be racing for the squad in 2015. Sauber confirmed last weekend that Marcus Ericsson would join them next year and revealed on Wednesday that GP2 driver Felipe Nasr will race alongside Ericsson. Sutil, who said earlier this year that he has a 2015 deal with Sauber, insists that the situation at the moment needs resolving. "There are certain things to talk about definitely," he commented ahead of […]

Nasr to join Sauber in 2015

Brazilian Felipe Nasr will race for Sauber next season alongside Sweden's Marcus Ericsson, the Swiss-based Formula One team said on Wednesday. The 22-year-old Brasilia-born driver is currently the Williams reserve while Ericsson is joining from Caterham, who went into administration last month and are missing Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix after being absent from the United States last weekend. The moves throw into doubt the F1 futures of current Sauber drivers Esteban Gutierrez of Mexico and Germany's Adrian Sutil and would also appear to end the […]

Sutil hits out at 'needless' Perez move

Adrian Sutil criticised rival Sergio Perez after crashing out of the United States Grand Prix for the second successive season. Sutil started from ninth place and maintained his position across the opening lap until he was hit by Force India rival Perez. Both cars were eliminated in the collision, with Sauber losing its best opportunity of scoring a first point of 2014. "I had a good start and was in a promising position," he said. "Sadly Sergio crashed into my car, which was completely needless. […]

Sauber confirms Ericsson for 2015

Sauber has confirmed that Caterham refugee Marcus Ericsson will race for the team in 2015. Ericsson made his Formula 1 debut with Caterham this year after spending four years in GP2 but the team's collapse means he is not racing in the United States this weekend. Ericsson finished a best of 11th in Monaco for the Leafield-based team but will now make the switch to Sauber for next season. "Fresh from a very turbulent week, I was suddenly given my best early Christmas present ever," […]

Marcus Ericsson set for Sauber switch

Marcus Ericsson looks set to keep his Formula One career alive by signing with Sauber for 2015. Said to carry some $18 million in personal sponsorship, the Swedish rookie is trackside in Austin this weekend despite the absence of his failing existing team, Caterham. "I had the ticket anyway," he told Speed Week, "but I came here because I want to maintain contact with the sport. "I'm sad that I cannot drive but it's important for me to meet with some people," the 24-year-old added. […]

Sutil: 18 car grid 'not enough'

Sauber driver Adrian Sutil says that the demise of Caterham and Marussia was 'obvious' and that an 18-car grid for this weekend's United States Grand Prix is 'not enough'. Sutil's Sauber team has endured a troublesome campaign and has yet to score a point, leaving it 10th in the Constructors' Championship, behind the absent Marussia. The German driver feels that the absence of teams from the grid was ultimately inevitable. "It’s not nice to see two teams missing here, but it was very obvious that […]

Sirotkin 'ready' for F1 after practice outing

Sergey Sirotkin says he feels 'ready' for Formula 1 after his practice outing for Sauber at the Russian Grand Prix. Sirotkin took part in the opening session in place of Esteban Gutierrez and set the 17th quickest time. Formula Renault 3.5 race winner Sirotkin, who was originally set for a Formula 1 seat this year, says he feels ready to make the step up to the top echelon of the sport. "I felt it after Bahrain a little, but it wasn't a proper run," he […]

Downbeat Sutil fears another Sauber struggle

Adrian Sutil reckons Sauber is set for another difficult weekend in Japan after Friday's practice sessions at Suzuka. Sutil, who has not yet scored a point this season, was 17th fastest in the second session and had his run disrupted by a Power Unit problem. "In first practice we had problems finding a good balance for the car," he said. "The hard tyres didn’t work as we had hoped. There was very little grip, which makes it difficult to set a decent lap time. For […]

De Silvestro's F1 future in doubt

Simona de Silvestro's prospects of joining the Formula 1 grid in 2015 have been hit by a setback after Sauber confirmed that 'financial reasons on her side' have ended her testing deal. De Silvestro joined Sauber as an 'affiliated driver' at the start of the year and tested for the squad during two private sessions when she piloted a Sauber C31 at Fiorano and Valencia. Former IndyCar racer De Silvestro had been scheduled to participate in the first practice session for the United States Grand […]
