Sauber duo disappointed after qualifying

Sauber duo Esteban Gutierrez and Adrian Sutil expressed their disappointment following a poor showing during qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. Neither Sauber driver was able to progress through to Q2, with Gutierrez in 17th narrowly eclipsing Sutil. "It was not a positive qualifying for the team, so we cannot be happy with today’s outcome," said Gutierrez. "We are on the edge of getting into Q2, so every minor incident on track is affecting us massively. Today it was a big challenge to find a […]

Sutil: C33 still needs improving

Adrian Sutil says that the driveability of the Sauber C33 still requires improvement ahead of this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. Sutil was 13th quickest during the second free practice session but crashed out of the first session after losing control at Mirabeau. "At the end of FP2, we were able to run a few laps on supersoft tyres, which worked out well," he said. "The car’s balance is decent. In general, we still have issues which we need to solve. The driveability needs to be […]

Gutierrez: Sauber needs to show progress

Esteban Gutierrez says that Sauber must put its learning into action and pick up results, starting at this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. Gutierrez has not scored a point so far this season but the Mexican insists that the team has made progress following last week's two day test in Barcelona. But Gutierrez knows that the Swiss team must reflect this knowledge on-track. "We know things, we made steps but we need to put it into results," he said. "The direction we’re trying to follow is […]

Sutil aiming to end Sauber points drought

Adrian Sutil says he heads to this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix with the aim of ending his and Sauber's points drought. Sauber has yet to score a point in 2014 with Sutil finishing the Spanish Grand Prix in a lowly 17th position. But the German has occasionally starred in Monaco - as he did in 2013 when he battled his way to fifth place when driving for Force India. "The Monaco Grand Prix is a very nice event every year," he said. "I really like […]

Gutierrez: We achieved maximum

Esteban Gutierrez admitted that he achieved the maximum result possible during qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix. The Mexican racer, driving a lighter Sauber C33, put his car in 14th place during Q2. "That was the maximum we could achieve today," he said. "Considering the difficulties I had yesterday, the team did an excellent job to put things right for today. We definitely still have issues which we have to solve, but being closer to the competition is motivating us. "Obviously, we are not completely […]

Sauber affected by Ukraine-Russia tensions

Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn has revealed that the current crisis between Ukraine and Russia has affected the team. Sauber has been keen to exploit the Russian market, with the team having signed up Russian youngster Sergey Sirotkin as one of their test drivers. But the rising tensions between Ukraine and Russia has led to business negotiations coming to a halt. "We’ve definitely seen an effect because a lot of talks which are very advanced have virtually come to standstill because people are waiting and […]

Teams insist cost cap is not dead

Several Formula 1 team principals have insisted that the concept of a cost cap for Formula 1 is not dead. Plans were announced earlier in the year for the sport to adopt cost control next season but FIA president Jean Todt revealed at the Bahrain Grand Prix last month that the strategy group voted against such measures. But a couple of senior figures within the sport are adamant that the cost cap can still happen. "I don’t believe… from our point of view, I don't […]

Sauber sure of improvements despite woes

Sauber say they are making progress with the lighter C33 despite their Friday practice sessions in Spain being disrupted by issues. Adrian Sutil had a few problems but reserve Giedo van der Garde came off worse when his car suffered a brake failure into the first corner. The Dutchman managed to keep the car out of the wall but had to take evasive action through the gravel trap. Sutil ended the day in 13th place and expressed satisfaction with the potential of the C33. "We […]

Sauber racers Esteban Gutierrez and Adrian Sutil say they expect the team to make a positive step forwards at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix. Sauber has struggled so far in 2014 and neither driver has scored a point, but the Swiss team has taken a substantial upgrade package to Barcelona in the hope of fighting for the points. "We have an aggressive approach on getting the bits together," said Gutierrez. "Both the team and Ferrari have been working hard to get it up to where […]

Sauber to bring major upgrades to Spain

Sauber will bring major upgrades to next weekend's Spanish Grand Prix as they bid to turn around their fortunes in 2014. Sauber has yet to score a point so far this season, with Adrian Sutil's 11th place in Australia their best result. Reliability has also been an issue, with Sutil finishing just once and team-mate Esteban Gutierrez twice. Sauber's C33 will be 'significantly improved', according to the Swiss team. Sauber will bring a car with an extensive weight reduction - an aspect which has particularly […]
