Nurburgring officials have reached an agreement with Bernie Ecclestone to host the German grand prix as scheduled in July. That is the claim of the German newspapers Allgemeine Zeitung and Rhein Zeitung, following a long-running 'on again, off again' saga surrounding the fortunes of the financially beleaguered Nurburgring. Mere hours before the latest reports, which were confirmed by Rhineland-Palatinate state spokeswoman Monika Fuhr, F1 chief executive Ecclestone had admitted the Nurburgring's future was still clouded. "It's all a bit messy," he was quoted by the […]

2013 Ferrari to hide 'step' in nose

Ferrari will hide the 'step' in the nose of its 2013 car, it has emerged. The FIA has allowed teams to install a "structurally irrelevant" laminate over the unseemly step for this year's cars, following the public's reaction to the dubious aesthetics of the 2012 field. The 'modesty panel', however, is not mandatory, even though Valtteri Bottas revealed earlier this month that Williams will take advantage of the new rule for its 2013 car. Now, a few days before the 2013 Ferrari appears officially, Spain's […]

F1's governing body backtracked on aerodynamic changes for the 2014 season because of fears the next generation of cars would be too slow. After the recent World Motor Sport Council meeting in Turkey, the FIA announced that scheduled bodywork rule changes for 2014 to reduce downforce have been replaced by "2012 specification". "There was concern that Formula 1 cars would become too slow," read a report by the authoritative German magazine Auto Motor und Sport. One problem is that the all-new turbo V6 and energy […]
