Red Bull planning further aeroscreen tests

Daniel Ricciardo says Red Bull is hoping to test the 'aeroscreen' at future Grands Prix, in order to evaluate the canopy system in different scenarios. Formula 1 is set to introduce increased head protection, perhaps as early as 2017, and Red Bull's aeroscreen has been developed as an alternative to the 'halo' device designed by Mercedes in conjunction with the FIA. Ricciardo completed an installation lap with the aeroscreen fitted to the RB12 during practice for the Russian Grand Prix and was encouraged by the […]

Ricciardo debuts 'aeroscreen' during practice

Daniel Ricciardo publicly debuted Red Bull's ‘aeroscreen’ head protection device during free practice for the Russian Grand Prix on Friday. Red Bull has designed the system as an alternative to the ‘halo’ system, which was developed by Mercedes and the FIA, before being trialled on the Ferrari SF16-H during pre-season testing. Ricciardo completed an installation lap at Sochi with the canopy, dubbed the aeroscreen, attached to the RB12. The FIA confirmed that Red Bull last week conducted static tests, with a wheel fired at the […]

Kvyat sure of sustained Red Bull challenge

Daniil Kvyat is sure that Red Bull can fight among the leading pack throughout the course of 2016 after an encouraging start to the current campaign. Red Bull secured four successive titles between 2010 and 2013 but slipped behind Mercedes when Formula 1 introduced new regulations in 2014, before regressing to fourth overall in 2015. Red Bull has recovered so far this year, with Kvyat finishing in third place in China, bringing Red Bull to within four points of Ferrari in the championship, albeit with […]

Red Bull set to run canopy in Russia practice

Red Bull is set to publicly debut its canopy protection system during free practice for the Russian Grand Prix on Friday. Formula 1 has been attempting to increase head protection across recent years, with the 'halo' device currently favoured by the FIA. The halo was trialled on Ferrari's SF16-H during pre-season testing though the system divided opinion. Red Bull will run the canopy, which it is labelling the 'aeroscreen', on one of it RB12s during Friday's opening session at the Sochi Autodrom. The system was […]

Ricciardo says China race 'equal best' of career

Daniel Ricciardo reckons his performance in the Chinese Grand Prix was the 'equal best' of his Formula 1 career as he recovered to fourth after an early puncture. Ricciardo started from the front row of the grid and snatched the lead off the line from Nico Rosberg, though as the Mercedes breezed past a few laps later the Australian suffered a right rear puncture. Ricciardo was able to return to the pit lane but slid down the order, before mounting a charge which left him […]

Ricciardo delights in 'awesome' front row spot

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo says the outfit did not expect to qualify on the front row of the grid in China, as he set the second fastest lap in Q3. Ricciardo edged ahead of both Ferrari drivers during his final run in Q3 to qualify second to Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg. It is the fourth time in his career that he will line-up from the front row of the grid as he equalled his best qualifying result. "To be honest inqualifying I didn’t think we […]

Horner: Red Bull driver situation 'healthy'

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner believes the level of talent within the outfit creates 'healthy' competition, amid speculation over Max Verstappen's future beyond the end of 2016. Verstappen, 18, has repeatedly been linked with a move away from Toro Rosso, ostensibly to senior team Red Bull, which currently fields Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat. Red Bull also has Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz Jr. under contract, while young driver Pierre Gasly will race in GP2 this season. "It is a nice situation to have," Horner […]

Ricciardo admits reaching Q3 a challenge

Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo believes he faces a challenge to reach the final segment of qualifying after Friday's pair of practice sessions at Sakhir. Ricciardo, who finished in fourth place in Australia, placed ninth in the second session in Bahrain. A repeat result on Saturday would leave Ricciardo eliminated in Q2, under the revised qualifying format of eight Q3 contenders. "This morning wasn’t too bad but from the very first lap this afternoon I locked the front into Turn 1 which killed that set […]

Ricciardo happy to be close to podium

Daniel Ricciardo expressed his happiness as he was able to finish the Australian Grand Prix in fourth place, behind only the Mercedes and Ferrari drivers. Ricciardo started from eighth place but made progress at the expense of the Toro Rosso drivers and passed Williams' Felipe Massa to move into fourth, collecting his best home result. "Today was fun for me, it was so good to be back racing," he said. "I came on the radio more than once expressing my joy to just being out […]

Horner: F1 should apologise for new qualifying format

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner believes the sport needs to apologise to Formula 1 fans after the new qualifying format failed to achieve the desired spectacle. Under a revised format, drivers were eliminated throughout Q1, Q2 and Q3, but most posted one lap before retreating to the pit lane. Lewis Hamilton set his pole position time with several minutes left in Q3, with the session widely criticsed by fans on social media. "We should apologise to fans and viewers as that’s not what qualifying […]

Red Bull presents canopy proposal

Red Bull has presented its proposal for increased head protection in Formula 1, as the sport moves closer to the halo concept for 2017. Increased head protection has been a focal point for safety enhancements and the halo concept, originally proposed by Mercedes, is the favoured option. The device was tested during pre-season by Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen, who both completed a lap with the halo mounted on the SF16-H. Red Bull has now presented its proposal of a transparent canopy, though the […]

Kvyat: Initial Red Bull pace promising

Daniil Kvyat says the initial pace of Red Bull's RB12 at the Australian Grand Prix is promising but remains wary that the picture was distorted due to wet weather. Kvyat was second to Lewis Hamilton in the opening session, with team-mate Daniel Ricciardo, before he rounded out the top 10 in the second session. Both sessions were affected by wet weather, with only a narrow window of dry running available early in the afternoon. "Everything went well today I think, the car felt good out […]
