Ocon happy with first Q3 result

Esteban Ocon enjoyed his first Q3 appearance in a Formula One qualifying session but reckons he could have been higher on the grid if he was not making mistakes during his final run. Ferrari scores front row lock-out

Sebastian Vettel will start the Russian Grand Prix from pole position after scoring the fastest time during the qualifying session. His fast lap of 1:33.194 set a new track qualifying record and was .059 of a second better than runner-up and teammate Kimi Räikkönen. Nico Rosberg held the previous track qualifying record of 1:35.337 set last year in Q2, and Vettel’s pole-winning time beat it by 2.143 seconds. Alonso expects tough race

Fernando Alonso qualified 15th for the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday as he was unable to fully capitalise on his track time. McLaren driver took the 15th spot in Q1, pushing him through to Q2, but an MGU-H issue on his flying lap meant he was unable to set a time during the second session. Valtteri Bottas claimed his first F1 career pole position at the Bahrain International Circuit after a close qualifying session with some great competition between the Mercedes drivers. The Finn beat his teammate Lewis Hamilton by just 0.023s on his second run in Q3. Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas will start the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday from pole position after setting the fastest time during Qualifying. His fast lap of 1:28.769 set a new track qualifying record and was .023 of a second better than runner-up and teammate Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton will start the the Chinese Grand Prix from pole position after setting the fastest lap ever turned at the Shanghai International Circuit in Qualifying. His lap of 1:31.678 was .186 of a second better than runner-up Sebastian Vettel.
