Rosberg wary of Williams challenge

Championship leader Nico Rosberg says he is wary of the threat which could be posed by Williams during this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring. Rosberg has claimed both victories at the circuit since Formula 1's return in 2014 while Williams occupies fourth in the standings, having claimed a single podium in 2016. However, Williams locked out the front row of the grid at the circuit in 2014, with Valtteri Bottas finishing on the podium in the race and Felipe Massa repeating […]

Rosberg cruises to European GP victory

Nico Rosberg claimed his fifth victory of the season with an untroubled lights-to-flag drive in the European Grand Prix at the Baku City Circuit. Rosberg built a lead over Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and maintained a 20-second gap for much of the race, completing a smooth Super Soft/Soft tyre strategy to secure victory. Vettel got ahead of Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo during the early stages of the race and was allowed through by Ferrari team-mate Kimi Räikkönen, netting second position during a processional race up front. Rosberg wary of Hamilton despite Q3 off

European Grand Prix pole sitter Nico Rosberg says he is wary of Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton, despite the Briton's struggles during qualifying at the Baku City Circuit. Hamilton had three off-track excursions during the session before a fourth error at Turn 10 caused damage to his W07 Hybrid, leaving him in 10th place on the grid. Rosberg went on to claim pole position, his third of the campaign, but remains aware that Hamilton can mount a comeback from the lower end of the top 10. […]

Rosberg takes pole, Hamilton crashes out

Nico Rosberg claimed pole position for the European Grand Prix as Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton crashed out of Q3 and will start only 10th. Hamilton had a messy session and went wide on his first flying lap before clipping the inside barrier at Turn 10, causing terminal damage to the front right of his W07 Hybrid. Rosberg, who was ahead on track, crossed the line to take provisional pole position with a 1:42.758 shortly before the session was halted to allow Hamilton’s car to be […]

Rosberg surprised by Baku pecking order

Nico Rosberg says he was surprised by the pecking order during practice for the European Grand Prix, with Force India and Williams emerging as Mercedes' closest rivals. Lewis Hamilton led a Mercedes 1-2, as Rosberg's session was disrupted when his W07 Hybrid came to a halt in the final sector. However, Mercedes was comfortably clear at the top of the standings, with Force India's Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg its nearest rivals, the pair split by Williams' Valtteri Bottas. Max Verstappen was the lead Red […]

Rosberg won't change approach amid slump

Mercedes' Nico Rosberg insists he won't change his approach to racing despite collecting only 16 points across the last three races. Rosberg claimed victory across the opening four rounds of the year to build a 43 point buffer over team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the standings. The pair collided in Spain and while Hamilton went on to record successive victories in Monaco and Canada, Rosberg was able to finish only seventh and fifth across the two races. It means he heads to the European Grand Prix […]

Rosberg 'very pissed off' after first lap clash

Nico Rosberg admitted he was "very pissed off" after he made minor contact with Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton at the start of the Canadian Grand Prix. Hamilton bogged down from pole position as both Mercedes drivers were overhauled by Sebastian Vettel on the run to Turn 1. Hamilton adopted the inside line, with Rosberg on the outside, and the pair made contact, with the German driver taking to the run-off in avoidance. Rosberg re-joined the track a lowly 10th and ultimately recovered to fifth place, […]

Rosberg upbeat despite missing pole

Nico Rosberg remains confident that he can fight for victory at the Canadian Grand Prix despite missing out on pole position to Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton. Rosberg trailed Hamilton by 0.062s after the first set of runs in Q3 before he locked up into Turn 1 on his second effort, scuppering his lap in the process. Rosberg is nonetheless sure that he is in the mix for overall honours at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. "Even if I just missed out on pole, the front row […]

Hamilton hails 'awesome' practice day

Reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton cut an upbeat figure as he led the way during both practice sessions for the Canadian Grand Prix. Hamilton finished the second session at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve 0.257s clear of Ferrari rival Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton adamant he's 'as strong as ever'

Reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton says he is as strong as he has ever been as he bids to close the gap on Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg in the standings. Hamilton endured a sequence of eight races without a victory until he prevailed over Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo during the most recent event in Monaco. Hamilton's triumph enabled him to close to within 24 points of Rosberg, who opened his 2016 account with four successive wins, as the sport heads to Canada this weekend. The […]

Rosberg explains 'massively disappointing' race

Nico Rosberg described his Monaco Grand Prix as "massively disappointing" as his hopes of a fourth straight Monaco Grand Prix victory ended on a damp squib. Rosberg started from second place on the grid in wet conditions but was unable to keep pace with Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, and was ordered by Mercedes to allow Lewis Hamilton through. Hamilton went on to win the race, while Rosberg was shuffled further down the order, the situation exacerbated by a slow stop. As rain fell on the […]
