Kimi Raikkonen has played down mechanical issues which have cost him and Ferrari track time during testing, after the Finn was hit by a gearbox problem on Tuesday. Raikkonen ended the opening day of the second test in fourth spot on the Medium tyres but missed two hours of running due to the gearbox problem in his SF16-H. "It is normal to have some little issues during testing like we had with the gearbox today, but I am not concerned as we have time to […]

Kimi Raikkonen was left to rue a loss of track time after completing only four installation laps during the morning session of the third day of testing in Spain. Ferrari team-mate Sebastian Vettel topped the first two days of running but the outfit was forced to conduct extensive fuel system checks in the morning, restricting Raikkonen's time in the SF16-H. Raikkonen upbeat over Ferrari atmosphere

Kimi Raikkonen says that the atmosphere at Ferrari has improved following the outfit's improved performance in the 2015 campaign. Ferrari endured a troubled 2014 season which led to the exits of several senior team figures, while Sebastian Vettel arrived in place of Fernando Alonso. Raikkonen, who helped Ferrari to second in the standings, says the squad has to keep working in the same manner if it is to overhaul Mercedes. "The year has finished and obviously for the next year people always expect more than […]

Raikkonen pleased with 'smoother' weekend

Kimi Raikkonen says a 'smoother' weekend enabled him to finish on the podium for the first time in 2015, behind runaway Mercedes drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. Raikkonen started from third on the grid and converted his position in race trim as he added to the rostrum finishes he achieved in Bahrain and Singapore. The result, allied to a sub-par race for Valtteri Bottas, ensured Raikkonen finished fourth in the final standings. "We started better this season but obviously not been an ideal year, […]

Vettel accepts misjudgement after shock Q1 exit

Sebastian Vettel accepted that he and Ferrari made a misjudgement after a shock exit from the first part of qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Vettel had set a time on Prime tyres which he and the outfit believed would be sufficient to progress into Q2, but Option-shod rivals improved their times and demoted the German racer to 16th place. "Nothing wrong with the car, we thought that the lap I had on the Soft (Prime) tyres was quick enough, but in the end […]

Raikkonen hopes to fight for 2016 title

Kimi Raikkonen is hopeful that Ferrari will be able to mount a sustained title challenge to current champions Mercedes in 2016. Ferrari endured a dismal 2014 campaign as Formula 1 switched to 1.6 litre v6 power units but made substantial progress across the winter to emerge as Mercedes' primary threat, with Sebastian Vettel winning three races. "Obviously this year has been a lot stronger year from the team than previous year and you can easily see it from whichever way you look at it and […]

Raikkonen: Alternate strategy made no difference

Kimi Raikkonen says Ferrari's decision to use a two-stop strategy at the Brazilian Grand Prix made no difference to his final result as he placed fourth at Interlagos. While both Mercedes drivers and team-mate Sebastian Vettel stopped three times, Raikkonen made only two stops, but reckons the difference in strategy did not affect his position after 71 laps. "Not much happened in my race: the start was kind of OK, I had some wheelspin but I managed to keep the position and I could follow […]

Raikkonen says move on Bottas 'not crazy'

Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen has defended his attempt at overtaking Williams rival Valtteri Bottas on the final lap of the Russian Grand Prix, which left the younger Finn in the barriers. Raikkonen and Bottas collided, with the latter being spun into the wall as Raikkonen continued with damage and slipped to fifth. Stewards later deemed […]

Vettel surprised by pole position margin

Sebastian Vettel admitted the margin of his pole position was a surprise as he ended his and Ferrari's drought by romping to top spot during qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix. Vettel secured pole position by over half a second from Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, halting Lewis Hamilton's run of topping seven qualifying sessions and ending Mercedes' Saturday supremacy in the V6 turbo era. It also marked an end to Ferrari's absence from pole position, with the Italian outfit topping a qualifying session for the […]

Arrivabene: Maybe Raikkonen 'messed up' start

Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene was left with mixed emotions after the squad's performance during its home race in Italy on Sunday. Sebastian Vettel claimed second place in front of Ferrari's home fans but Kimi Raikkonen dropped to the back after failing to getaway when the lights went out, before he was able to recover to fifth. "This time I see the glass half full. Sebastian’s race to second place was unbelievable," he said. "His contribution to the team so far has been outstanding. As […]
