Bianchi and De la Rosa to test for Ferrari in Bahrain

Ferrari has confirmed that Pedro de la Rosa and Jules Bianchi will test for the team in Bahrain next week, rather than 2014 race drivers Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen. Ferrari is one of four teams set to participate in the test, which is being organised by tyre supplier Pirelli. The data management and the daily schedule will be defined by Pirelli, so that no one team gains a competitive advantage for 2014. Spaniard de la Rosa entered over 100 races in Formula 1 between […]

Season review: Future star Bianchi makes his mark

Jules Bianchi didn't have a seat as February turned into March. By the end of the month, he had impressed the Formula 1 community and he continued to build on his promise throughout the rest of the year. Prior to the start of the 2013 Formula 1 season, Max Chilton was in the unusual position of having had three team-mates even before flying out to the first round in Australia. Marussia veteran Timo Glock agreed to depart in order for the team to improve their […]

Esteban Gutierrez and Max Chilton have been reprimanded after qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix. Both drivers were deemed to have crossed the white line when entering the pit lane, in breach of the regulations. Gutierrez will start from 18th place, with Chilton rounding out the grid. "I made a mistake in the last corner and was just not able to recover what I gained in sectors one and two. After that it started to rain quite a lot and it was hard to catch […]

Vettel snatches pole position from Webber in Austin

World champion Sebastian Vettel snatched pole position from team-mate Mark Webber during the final moments of qualifying for the United States Grand Prix. Webber held provisional pole position and lowered his own benchmark and Vettel appeared to be heading for second position after a tardy first and second sector. But Vettel lit up the timing screens in the final sector to steal pole from Webber. Romain Grosjean set the third fastest time, ahead of Nico Hulkenberg and 2012 race winner Lewis Hamilton. Fernando Alonso was […]

Sebastian Vettel sets pace in second practice in Austin

Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time during second practice for the United States Grand Prix in Austin. Great Dane: Kevin Magnussen's rise to Formula 1

The news that Kevin Magnussen will replace Sergio Pérez at McLaren in 2014 had been expected, but it’s nonetheless a bold gamble from a team aiming to return to the front next season. McLaren’s attempts to place Magnussen at Marussia or perhaps Force India for his rookie campaign – as Ferrari has done with Jules Bianchi – were ultimately fruitless. Rather than let Magnussen sit on the pit wall for a year, McLaren took the decision to promote Magnussen at the expense of Pérez. Considering […]

Injured Alonso to fight on in Austin

Fernando Alonso and Ferrari have ended the fevered speculation about the Spaniard's participation in this weekend's US grand prix. Since Abu Dhabi, Alonso has been reportedly struggling with back pain as a result of his harsh impact over the kerbs in a duel with Jean-Eric Vergne. It was rumoured Ferrari was lining up Jules Bianchi or Pedro de la Rosa as last-minute substitutes for the injured 'number 1'. But Alonso told his millions of Twitter and Facebook fans late on Monday that he is getting […]

Alonso 'waiting' on fitness for Austin GP

It is possible Fernando Alonso will not travel to Austin for this weekend's US grand prix. The highly respected correspondent for Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pino Allievi, said Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo "is not even remotely" contemplating the prospect of the Spaniard sitting out the race. But, after his high-G bump over the Abu Dhabi kerbs a week ago, Alonso admitted he was in back pain, while his manager Luis Garcia Abad 'tweeted' an alarming photo of the driver strapped to a spinal […]

Technical issues disrupt Marussia progress

Both Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton expressed their frustration after technical problems affected their running ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Bianchi qualified in 20th place but will drop to the back of the grid after sustaining a penalty for a gearbox change. The replacement was necessary after the Frenchman spun off track in final practice. "It has not been a good day on my side, so to work hard together to come back from that is a big plus and I am happy […]
