Nasr took to the circuit in Sauber's C34 and undertook systems check in the morning prior to focusing on power unit settings and tyre evaluation during the afternoon. The Brazilian rookie was also able to sample wet weather conditions when a shower hit the circuit during the final hour of running. "It was a great day," said Nasr, who occupied a reserve role at Williams in […]

Vettel keeps Ferrari on top in Jerez test

Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time for Ferrari on the second day of testing to ensure he ended his running at the Circuito de Jerez at the head of the pack. Vettel, who topped the times on Sunday, posted a lap of 1:20.984 in the Ferrari SF15-T during a sequence of rapid laps in the morning. No-one else was able to beat the German’s time, with a late rain shower ensuring that he remained the quickest driver. The quadruple world champion will hand over duties […]

Vettel plays down pace setting time

Sebastian Vettel has played down expectations despite setting the quickest lap on the opening day of testing at Jerez. The new Ferrari driver clocked a time of 1:22.620 in the SF15-T to end the session a tenth of a second faster than Sauber's Marcus Ericsson. It wasn't the perfect start for Vettel, however, as he spent time in the garage due to a telemetry issue. "Today was a good start. I can’t say more than that, because this is only the beginning," he said. "Everything […]

Rosberg hails 'fantastic' Mercedes

Nico Rosberg heaped praise on his Mercedes team after he racked up 157 laps on the first day of testing at Jerez. Rosberg, who finished runner-up in last year's championship, set the third fastest time at the Spanish track as he put the W06 Hybrid through its paces. "That was a great start to the winter testing," he said. "In the beginning it's all about reliability and we managed to do a lot of mileage today. "The guys in the factories built a complete new […]

Ricciardo encouraged by Red Bull start

Daniel Ricciardo says he is encouraged by Red Bull's start to pre-season testing after putting the interim-liveried RB11 through its paces at Jerez. Red Bull endured a disastrous time during testing in 2014 but Ricciardo racked up 35 laps, albeit disrupted by technical problems. "We got going pretty well this morning and I got a few laps under my belt," said Ricciardo after setting the fourth fastest time of the seven runners. "So the first impressions are good. We’ll get a few more laps over […]

Force India to skip Jerez test

Force India has confirmed that it will not participate in the opening test of the pre-season campaign in Jerez. The Silverstone-based squad had revealed earlier in the month that it would be delaying the introduction of its VJM08 until the second test in Barcelona, which begins on February 19th. The team had originally planned to use the VJM07, the 2014 car, at Jerez this week but has now abandoned that concept. "We have chosen not to run the old (2014) car in Jerez," Force India […]

Newey: Lack of time cost Red Bull at Jerez

Red Bull's chief technical officer Adrian Newey says a lack of time caused the team to air their problems in public at the first test at Jerez. Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo were able to complete just 21 laps across four days of running in the RB10. Overheating issues with the RB10 were also compounded by Renault's own problems with its power units. "What stopped us at Jerez, on our side as opposed to Renault's side, was a problem where the bodywork local to the […]

Time for Marussia to make the breakthrough?

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better. Samuel Beckett's often used phrase to inspire those never to give up - recently crowned Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka has the quote tattooed onto his arm - and it could be applied to Marussia. Marussia has failed to score a point in four years of racing. They’ve started 77 races and achieved a best finish of 12th place (twice). It’s hardly an awe-inspiring statistic and since the team’s inception in 2010 they […]

Horner: Bahrain an important test

Christian Horner says that next week's test in Bahrain is 'important' for reigning champions Red Bull. Red Bull completed just 21 laps in the RB10 at the first test at Jerez due to issues with the cooling on its car, a situation which was exacerbated by Renault's problems with the new power unit. "Well obviously there's quite a bit to do but there's still a fair bit of time before the first race and the Bahrain test next week is an important test so obviously […]

Lotus trials E22 at Jerez

Lotus has completed their first miles of running in the E22 at Jerez. New signing Pastor Maldonado completed a shakedown of the car at the Spanish circuit, a week after the group test at the circuit which Lotus opted to skip. Teams are permitted to complete filming days but must run on Pirelli's demonstration tyres and are limited to a maximum running of 100km. The E22 will make its public debut shortly before the start of Formula 1's next test in Bahrain, which takes place […]
