Rosberg quickest as Hamilton crashes

Nico Rosberg moved to the front of the time sheets during the second practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix as Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton crashed out. Rosberg and Hamilton were separated by just 0.001s in the Briton’s favour on the Soft tyres when he clipped the entry kerb on the outside of Turn 11 and spun into the barriers. Hamilton suffered a side impact and though he was able to crawl back to the garage, his session was truncated after only four laps. Mercedes […]

Reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton says he is "feeling powerful and feeling confident" as the sport prepares for the mid-point of the 2016 campaign in Hungary this weekend. Hamilton has won four of the last five Grands Prix to close to within one point of team-mate Nico Rosberg in the championship, having at one stage trailed his rival by 43 points. Hamilton has won in Hungary in 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2013 and is hopeful of adding to his tally this weekend. "Ever since the […]

Perez eyes change of fortune in Hungary

Force India's Sergio Perez is hopeful that he can end his run of sub-par results in Hungary when the sport returns to the Hungaroring this weekend. Perez is enjoying his strongest Formula 1 campaign since he made his debut in 2011 but has scored points only once in Budapest, when he finished a low-key ninth in 2013. Perez has retired from the most recent two Hungarian Grands Prix and last year also rolled spectacularly during the first free practice session. "We have been strong in […]

Hungary gets extended Formula 1 deal

Officials at the Hungaroring have confirmed that the circuit's contract to host Formula 1 races has been extended until at least 2026. Hungary has been a mainstay on the calendar since 1986, with only Monte Carlo and Monza enjoying longer uninterrupted spells, and its existing deal ran until 2021. Upon the reopening of the venue after resurfacing works, Miklos Sesztak, the Minister of National Development, confirmed its extension for a further five years. "The Grand Prix's contract was extended for another five years, which means […]

Arrivabene says Hungary win proves critics wrong

Ferrari Team Principal Maurizio Arrivabene says that the squad's victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix proved doubters wrong, following a few difficult races for the outfit. Ferrari claimed victory in the second round of 2015 in Malaysia but slipped off the podium in Canada and Austria, while it was firmly third best in Britain prior to rain late in the race. Vettel and team-mate Kimi Raikkonen jumped into first and second at the start in Hungary and while Raikkonen was forced to retire due to […]

Bottas disappointed with 'unlucky' race

Valtteri Bottas says it was disappointing for Williams to leave the Hungarian Grand Prix without scoring points, but conceded that it was better than losing out at one of its strongest circuits. Williams was braced for a challenging weekend due to the layout of the Hungaroring but Bottas was in contention for a healthy haul of points until he was clipped by Max Verstappen at Turn 5. The minor contact left Bottas with a puncture and he dropped out of the points, eventually coming home […]

Rosberg criticises Ricciardo over late collision

Nico Rosberg was critical of Red Bull rival Daniel Ricciardo after the pair collided during the closing stages of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Rosberg held second position on the Prime tyres but was being chased by Option-shod Ricciardo during the final few laps. Ricciardo dived up the inside at Turn 1 but the pair made contact on the exit of the corner, with Rosberg sustaining a puncture. Rosberg dropped down the order and eventually came home in eighth position, losing more ground to Lewis Hamilton […]

Ricciardo has 'no regrets' over aggressive style

Daniel Ricciardo says he has no regrets over his driving style as he collected his first podium position of the season at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Ricciardo was involved in three separate collisions in the race, the first at the start, the second with Lewis Hamilton - for which the Briton was penalised - and lastly while contesting second place with Nico Rosberg. Ricciardo and Rosberg made contact exiting the first corner and the Red Bull driver was forced to pit for a new front […]

Hulkenberg: Little warning over front wing failure

Nico Hulkenberg said he had little warning prior to a dramatic front wing failure at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Hulkenberg's front wing collapsed from his Force India on the pit straight, sending the German into the barriers at Turn 1. Hulkenberg was able to walk away from his damaged car as he retired for the second time in 2015. "It’s a shame we lost the opportunity to get a great result today," he said. "I didn’t have much warning that there was a problem with […]

Maldonado: Stewards were very strict

Lotus driver Pastor Maldonado believes that stewards at the Hungarian Grand Prix were 'very strict' as he collected several penalties during the course of the race. Maldonado was given a drive through penalty for colliding with Sergio Perez at Turn 1 and received another for speeding in the pit lane. Maldonado was also given a 10 second time drop for overtaking Will Stevens under the Safety Car. "[It was] quite tough, seems like the stewards today were very strict, tough on driving," he told reporters. […]

Hamilton was 'all over the place'

Lewis Hamilton accepted responsibility for a performance which left him a lowly sixth at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Hamilton started from pole position but dropped to fourth into Turn 1 before running wide at Turn 6, slipping down to 10th position. Hamilton survived contact with Felipe Massa early on but then collided with Daniel Ricciardo following the Safety Car period, damaging his front wing. Hamilton was forced to make an extra stop and was subsequently handed a drive through penalty, from which he recovered to […]
