Hamilton hit by grid penalty

Lewis Hamilton will start the German Grand Prix from 20th on the grid due to a gearbox penalty. The Brit originally qualified in 15th position after suffering a right front brake disc failure during Q1 at Hockenheim. Mercedes confirmed on Sunday morning that Hamilton's W05 Hybrid requires a gearbox change and as a result he will drop five places.

Alonso expecting close points battle

Felipe Massa is hopeful that forecast cooler conditions for Sunday's German Grand Prix will aid Williams's prospects of collecting a strong result. Nico Rosberg set the pace during the final practice session ahead of qualifying for the German Grand Prix. Rosberg's time of 1:17.779 was 0.601s clear of Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton as the field conducted qualifying simulations on option tyres.
