Raikkonen pleased with recovery after issue

Kimi Raikkonen expressed his satisfaction after recovering from a technical issue during practice for the German Grand Prix to go fourth quickest. Raikkonen, who sits a lowly 12th in the championship, ended the day just 0.546s down on leader Lewis Hamilton. "Unfortunately in the morning, because of a technical problem, I had to come back to the garage and was unable to do an additional run on the Soft tyres, but thanks to a great job from the team, I managed to quickly get back […]

Hamilton wary of tyre management

Lewis Hamilton believes that tyre management will be crucial during this weekend's German Grand Prix following high temperatures in Friday's practice sessions. Temperatures peaked at 33c, with the track surface registering 58c during the second session. The Brit ended the day on top of the leaderboard as he bids for his sixth win of the year. "It was quite difficult to find the balance with the track being so hot and it is a tricky circuit to drive in general," he said. "The car is […]

Magnussen enthused by McLaren updates

Kevin Magnussen expressed his satisfaction at the upgrades which McLaren has brought to the German Grand Prix after he set the fifth fastest time during practice at Hockenheim. Magnussen was trialling a new front wing as part of an update package which is being used at this weekend's event, having originally been planned for next weekend's race in Hungary. "I can’t really explain the relatively close gap to the cars at the front, but everybody is running different programmes on different fuel-loads," he said. "The […]

Caterham plagued by problems in Germany

Caterham's difficult season continued as both drivers suffered technical issues during practice for the German Grand Prix. Marcus Ericsson suffered an oil pressure problem in the CT05 but was able to return to the circuit and set the 20th fastest time. But team-mate Kamui Kobayashi's day ended early after he pulled to the side of the circuit with flames trickling from the back of his car. "The car balance felt much better with the changes we made over lunch but it immediately felt like it […]

Hulkenberg pins hopes on balance change

Nico Hulkenberg is hopeful that overnight changes will improve the Force India VJM07 after he failed to break into the top 10 during practice for the German Grand Prix. Hulkenberg, who has scored points in every race so far this season, was 14th quickest ahead of his home race at Hockenheim. "It was not the smoothest day, but from the team’s perspective everyone is happy that we managed to get the main jobs done," he said. "It’s hard to really know our absolute pace because […]

Sutil encouraged despite 'difficult day'

Adrian Sutil says he is encouraged by Sauber's position in the pecking order despite enduring a 'difficult day' during practice for his home race in Germany. Sutil, who has yet to score a point in 2014, briefly topped the second practice session at Hockenheim and eventually ended 11th quickest. "It was a difficult day," he said. "Because of the high temperatures it was not easy to find a good set-up. However, this was the same situation for everyone. Due to the extremely high track temperatures, […]

Vettel sure of Red Bull improvement

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel believes that there is more to come from his Red Bull RB10 after a low-key start to his weekend in Germany. Vettel was eighth quickest in the second practice session at Hockenheim but reckons he can progress further ahead of qualifying. "I think we can improve from there for tomorrow," he said. "I don’t think not having the FRIC [Front and Rear Interconnected] suspension on the car made too much difference to us today, although I haven’t had a proper […]

Wolff pleased with practice performance

Williams development driver Susie Wolff says she is pleased with her performance after participating in Friday's opening practice session for the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim. Wolff ended the session 15th quickest of the 22 drivers but, like during her practice outing at Silverstone, her day was not without dramas. Her Williams FW36 developed a technical issue during her first lap of the session, forcing Wolff to return to the pits at crawling pace. "That was a tough moment because it was immediately clear when […]
