Vettel sure Monaco will suit Ferrari

Sebastian Vettel is sure that Ferrari will be able to fight for victory at the Monaco Grand Prix, despite being overhauled by Red Bull in Spain. Vettel finished third at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as he was beaten to the flag by Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen. Vettel is nonetheless confident that Ferrari can vanquish Red Bull and provide a challenge to Mercedes. "I think it should be a strong track for us, we were very competitive last year," he said. […]

Ferrari 'realistic' over pace in Spain

Ferrari Team Principal Maurizio Arrivabene has stressed that his outfit must be "realistic" despite a double podium finish at the Spanish Grand Prix. Kimi Raikkonen was second, with Sebastian Vettel third, but Arrivabene emphasised that the first lap collision between the Mercedes drivers distorted the situation. "We must be realistic and accept the fact that, if both Mercedes had been in the race, the result would have been different," he said. "We had an opportunity and we failed to take advantage. "Even if on track […]

Vettel surprised by two-stop superiority

Sebastian Vettel admitted his surprise at a two-stop strategy being the better approach during the Spanish Grand Prix, as he finished the race in third place. Vettel trailed Red Bull rivals Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen across the first stint of the race but was in the mix for victory, as both he and Ricciardo adopted three-stop strategies. However, Verstappen and Vettel's Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen moved into the top two positions after stopping only twice, with the order retained until the end of the […]

Raikkonen: Final sector scuppered win prospect

Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen says second was a good recovery from a poor start but rued poor traction exiting the final corner, denying him the chance of challenging Max Verstappen for victory at the Spanish Grand Prix. Raikkonen lapped within a second of Verstappen throughout the final stint of the race but was unable to follow the Dutchman through the final chicane, losing ground entering the pit straight. Raikkonen was never close enough to try a move on Verstappen, despite his proximity to the Red […]

Ferrari puzzled by qualifying slump

Sebastian Vettel conceded that Ferrari "didn't get it right" as he managed only sixth place during qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix. Vettel had closed to within two-tenths of a second of Mercedes' Nico Rosberg during Saturday morning's final practice session, suggesting Ferrari had the potential to challenge for pole position. However, Vettel could set only the sixth best time in Q3, 1.3 seconds behind pole man Lewis Hamilton. "I think every day can be tough but for sure I didn't expect to be that […]

Vettel leads Ferrari 1-2 in first practice

Sebastian Vettel led a Ferrari 1-2 during the opening practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Vettel and team-mate Kimi Räikkönen both utilised Pirelli’s Soft compound tyres to finish at the head of the pack, with the German quickest on a 1:23.951, 0.138s clear of Räikkönen. Vettel: Barcelona will be good reference

Sebastian Vettel believes that this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix will provide a good reference about Formula 1's pecking order in 2016 - and where Ferrari stands within it. Vettel and Ferrari have had a mixed campaign so far, securing podium finishes in Australia and China but failing to start in Bahrain due to a power unit problem. Vettel's Russian Grand Prix was also truncated after twice being hit by Daniil Kvyat on the first lap, the latter touch proving terminal to the German's hopes. The […]

Vettel labels Kvyat approach 'completely unnecessary'

Sebastian Vettel has criticised Red Bull rival Daniil Kvyat for a "completely unnecessary" approach after he was eliminated on the opening lap in Russia. Vettel was struck from behind by Kvyat under braking for Turn 2, which sent the Ferrari driver into the side of Daniel Ricciardo, who in turn clipped Force India's Sergio Perez. Vettel recovered to negotiate Turn 3 but was hit once more by Kvyat, with the impact resulting in the Ferrari driver being pitched into the barriers and retirement. "I was […]

Raikkonen content with podium finish

Kimi Raikkonen was content with finishing on the podium at the Russian Grand Prix though accepted Ferrari did not have the pace to challenge rivals Mercedes. Raikkonen moved up to second at the start at the expense of Valtteri Bottas but was overhauled by his compatriot at the restart, before being passed by Lewis Hamilton into Turn 5. Raikkonen extended his first stint and emerged from the pits ahead of Bottas, after which he had a lonely run to third place. "I had a pretty […]
